Question about Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1" LCD Monitor

Opening Up a Dell 2005FPW

A Dell 2005FPW we have here has gone on the fritz off-warranty, so I'm dusting off my toolkit to see if I can't figure out what's wrong (pretty sure it's either the inverter or power unit).

Problem: cursory examination and online searches have provided no real clear diagrams of how to get into the guts of the display.

The unit would remain on in stand-by mode displaying the color test pattern, but would begin flashing between the intended video input (i.e. the computer desktop) and black on and off immediately upon having a video input connected to it. This would persist, preventing input switching or even powering off the unit via the power button in front.

I have found no bulged capacitors in a thorough inspection of the internal device components. Do you have any further advice?

I cannot take off the back of my monitor, it is stubbornly clipped somehow. I am not I weenie, but I am afraid if I use brute force, I will break it. Does anyone have an easy way of removing the back of this thing?

Dell 2005FPW Monitor Flicker problem

The flickering is most likely the florescent backlight having a hard time starting, Just like in a light fixture, as it gets old, it takes longer to warm up to get full functionality.
If under warranty, contact Dell for a replacement, if not, then when it becomes untenable, replace the monitor. Prices are dropping drastically, an new 20 or 22 In can be bought for about $150 or less

2005 FPW Dell Monitor

Hi D,
Kindly unplug the monitor form the back of the computer and check the display,There would be a self test ,screen that would run on the monitor . Check if the screen in green in the self test.
You can also restore the setting of the monitor to factory reset, sometimes there a static that builds up on the screen and can cause the problem. Press the menu button in the front and use the + or - keys to select factory reset and press menu again.

If nothing of the above works the monitor has gone bad, if the monitor was purchased with the system then it would have the systems warranty.
If you have purchased the monitor on seprate order it would have 3 yr warranty

Thanks
