SOURCE: BT Studio 3500, Base station,
eventually contacted the BT team via telephone and apparently this is a common problem when using BT products with Talktalk & Virgin. To overcome this in the majority of cases, dial 1571 and connect to your voicemail, listen to the options and finally delete all messages. Hope this can be added to your list of solutions.

I had the same problem and my hubby managed to reset the phone by simply unplugging it from the electical network. Just wait for few minutes (the date goes back to 1 Jan 2005), then plug it again and try to dial a number. It should work.

Turn base around and find the area which says pager/registration. Push this button after you set internally the handset registration.
Menu/H set settings/Reg. Handset

On my phillips phones you first have to "enable registration" on the base before you can register the phone - the RC code should be a label on the bottom of the phone. Else unfortunately the handset could be faulty.
