It says it can burn 8,5GB double layer DVDs. It doesn't. It will burn single layer DVDs and CDs without a problem. I have tried Office Depot and Memorex double layer DVDs (8.5 GB). All fail.
The computer identifies the DVD Drive but when I put the DVD in the tray it converts to CD Drive. I can not send, paste or drop and drag. When I try Nero, it starts to transfer then aborts with an "illegal disk" error.
If I check properties, it is all blue (full) with 0 bytes used and left! I can not access a format action...so I am at a loss...can you help?

According to the manual, http://www.jensenmobile.com/mobile-multimedia/?sku=VM9216BT under the Support/Manuals tab, the VM9216BT reads VCD, SVCD, XVid ,AVI, MPEG 1/2 formats. Commercial DVDs will work if you match the device Region with the discs region code. (All or Region 1 in the US). The DVDs should be DVD-5 (single-sided, single layer), DVD-9 (single-sided, double layer), DVD-10 (double-sided, single layer) or DVD-18 (double-sided, double layer). Note: video CDs and DVDs, like audio CDs, need to be finalized by the drive that burned them.
Ya didn't say what Operating System?... Ensure ya have all the correct "Settings" in the Burn software. Sometimes the actual type of DVD media can be an issue... some dvd's just don't "Like" some DVD's I have found... try the best brand ya can afford... if still no go.. try Alcohol 120% & CopyToDVD both use their "Own" "Drivers" and I have had great success.. where others have failed..
