Question about Toshiba D-R400

Open Question

Toshiba DVD Recorder D-R400 won't record

Just purchased a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV. Have an HDMI cable from TV to Toshiba D-R400. Cable from Comcast goes into Onkyo Receiver (no cable box). RCA cables run from Onkyo receiver to Toshiba.

Per the manual, I have set the clock, formatted a Sony DVRW disk then followed the basic recorded instructions. What stumps me is that I do not have a cable box so I cannot choose the channel per pg 35 "Basic Recording & One-Touch Timer Recording". The exact text reads: "Press [INPUT SELECT] to select the appropriate external input position (L1/L2) to which your cable/satellite box is connected (mine is L1, I guess). Then select the desired channel to record on the cable/satellite box." This is were I get into trouble.

Any suggestions? No picture, no sounds, nothing records from the TV.

Are you trying to record cable programming with your DVD recorder? If so, you might want to try using component cable as HDMI does have a copy protection circuit that might be preventing your recorder from receiving the image. Just try to connect the cable box component (RED/GREEN/BLUE) cable to your DVD recorder. If that doesn't work, then try to change everything over to component cables. HDMI is a great cable to use but it the only required to display 1080p images and the only current source that uses 1080p is a bluray player. Everything else, such as your cable box and DVD recorder is 1080i and component cables are perfect for it.

SOURCE: YOUR TV DOES NOT ALLOW DISPLAY OF THIS PROGRAM THROUGH THE DVI IN

I solved the same problem by disabling SIMPLINK from OPTIONS menu. I own the LG TV myself. The LG TV comes SIMPLINK "ON" as default setting from the factory. Go to MEMU -> OPTIONS -> Turn SIMPLINK to "OFF". This should work....

How to connect motorola cable box to samsung dvd/vcr model vr375 to a Westinghouse hdtv with 2 hdmi connections

The DVD-VR375 does not have an HDMI input. The connection should be:
• RED WHITE & YELLOW CABLE from your cable box (AV OUT) should connect to the DVD-VR375 (AV IN 1). Set the DVD-VR375 to AV 1 using the INPUT SEL. button.
• Next, connect an HDMI cable from the DVD-VR375 (HDMI OUT) to the TV (HDMI IN). Set the TV to the proper source.
This connection would allow the recorder to work as a pass through and will let you record TV programs as well as watch your cable channels.

Hope this helps!

Recording with comcast hd box and toshiba VCR/DVD

1st, see if you can get another cable box that offers component as well as RCA outputs on the back. Does your cable box have S Video out and does your toshiba have S Video in? If so, hook up the S Video from cable box to Toshiba. Then hook up R&W audio from Cable Box out to Toshiba In. Set the channel on the cable box to what you want to record. Set Toshiba to record channel 3 or 4, whichever your Toshiba is set on. The cable box controls the channel you are recording. You cannot set the recorder to the channel you want to record. It must be either 3 or 4. Try it. If everything else fails, you have to go cable from wall to cable in on cable box, cable out on cable box to cable in on Toshiba then either cable or RCA out on Toshiba to TV.

Connecting LG DVD recorder to cable box and HGTV digitally

Two things come to mind: copy protection and resolution settings.
The TV may not allow copy protected material to come from your LG, or the sampling frequency may be unacceptable. On page 15 of the manual it talks about 96kHz and 48kHz frequency settings. The third thing to check is the vertical resolution using the RES button on the front panel. SDTV is 480, and HDTV is anything above that. Using the HDMI is supposed to allow upconvert to 1080i max if your set can use that resolution.
