Philips 26PFL5522D/05 goes into temporary standby after turning on

I'd appreciate some advice for an irritating problem I have with my Philips 26PFL5522D/05 LCD TV.

Most times (I'd say 4 out 5) after the TV has been on for about 5 seconds, it goes into standby for a few seconds and the powers back up. The remote doesn't work until the TV has powered itself back up.

Also very occassionally it goes into an "auto update mode" and tries to download a firmware update. I've left it in this mode for hours but it doesn't manage to download an update. The only solution I've found is to turn the TV off at the socket, leave for a minute or so and then turn back on.

Don't know if the 2 issues are connected so thought I'd describe both problems in the same post.

The Philips website offers no advice!

Any pearls of wisdom?

Thanks, Andy

SOURCE: Sharp Aquos turns itself off

How many times per second does the POWER led blink? (dont worry about the OPC).

1x per second (constant, steady blink) = bad inverter/lamps
2x per second = bad power supply
3x per second = bad main board

You can buy the parts online and fix if yourself!!

I'm trying to tune my Philips 26PFL5522D/05 tv digital channels without a remote. If i press the menu button I do not get 'Install' as an option in the drop down menu. Whats wrong?

I don't believe there are analog channels being broadcast anymore, or I know around here we don't have any, the set should pull up anything that is available without doing anything special to it. Below is a link that will explain it.

Philips 26pfl5522d/05 TV Channel issue

Just been on Philips Forum and there is a possible very simple solution. Press and hold the MENU button ON THE TV for about 20 secs. This should factory reset TV and allow storage/retrieval of channels to the '8k' store. See this page for more detail:
Now I have to ring my Dad who has exactly this problem!

The picture goes off, the power/standby light

Sony KDF-60XS955 picture goes and power/standby light light flashes

Most likely you have bulb failure. First step in troubleshooting is "Change the Lamp or Bulb". Lightning, power line bumps and collisions with vacuum cleaners can all shorten lamp life. Rough handling in shipment can also happen without your knowledge.

+90% of all Sony LCD Rear Projector "No Picture or Intermittent Picture" faults are related to bulb failure.

If new lamp does not improve the situation, then hands-on troubleshooting by someone that has parts and knows how the unit works is the only practical remedy.

Television problem

Hi there!
I would start with power supply caps and regulators. However it could really be anywhere on the circuit, Philips TVs are error sensitive so I would recommend a repair technician. Good Luck, Jus004

This is is due to a faulty resistor probably the B+(R950)..On the power supply control circuit..If you know how to use a multimeter you can easily find the faulty one...And replace it.However if you are not good at electronics i advice that you give it for service coz its not gonna cost you too much..Dont delay the repair as it can damage the more expensive components in the Tv.
Good luck!

TV goes into standby after approx one hour

Capacitors that are going bad in the power supply is the usual problem. Six years, however, would be a long time for this problem to show up. Cheapest fix is (in order): (1) Replace all electrolytic capacitors in the power supply board - about $20.00 for parts. The really, really big high-voltage ones are probably OK unless you see a bulge in the top.
(2) Replace the power supply board entirely (with new one - not used from eBay) (3) Come back here if these don't fix it. I have fixed many TVs with this issue and 90% is capacitor related.
