when it freezes like that you either have to much memory on it but when they came out with those nanos they froze alot and there isnt really anything to do besides try to let the battery die and turn it on again
It sounds like you should reset the Ipod. Don't worry, it won't erase anything on it. Here's how: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
