Question about Samsung Spinpoint MP0402H 40 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Samsung MP0402H My Computer suddently shows me the message: no system found. The cause is that my harddisk isn't recognized by the system anymore. It seems as if the controller of the HDD isn't working anymore. To verify this and to regain access to access my data, I thought that I could change the controller by another one of the same type. Mine is from 2004.11, serialnr S03WJ10XB07435. Can somebody help me? Is this the right way? Would it work? Does someone have a HDD of the same built?

This trick is the proverbial 100 to 1 long shot but is worth trying with any drive that suddenly stops working - put it in a freezer bag, squeeze out as much air as you can an the put inside another freezer bag and then place in a freezer for an hour. Fair dinkum, this sometimes works but the drive may only work for an short time if quickly re-installed. If it does work, unload critcal data IMMEDIATELY.

open your start menu, and right click computer and go to manage. in the computer management mmc, go to disk management. From the disk management window, you will be able to see if your drive is actually being recognized by your computer. if it is and isn't showing up, format and assign a drive letter

don't waste time n seek a professional supervision for a data recovery or data backup..
now try reinstalling os (i prefer winxp pro)..
make sure power cables are properly connected and the data cable too..replace with a standby..
replacing the RAM is next option..
glance on the m/b for defective capacitors (esp above 1000mfd) and mosfets..try replacing m/b with alternative standby..

My computer didnt recognize my hard disk

Looks like the controller on the Hard disk has malfunctioned. I am afraid, that the Hard disk has to be sent to an expert nearby for Data Recovery. They would have tools which could be used for getting your data intact. But again it all depends on the level of damage to the Hard disk.You may get all / some of your data ot you may get none. Please consult your hardware vendor for this

My computer didn't recognize my harddis

Ok, the data may not be lost.
Need info:

- what kind of HD
- what operating system you use; windows?
- what kind of HD, is it a SATA drive?
- When you boot, (windows) do you see the drive (the faulty one) note the drive make and model number
- is this the BOOT drive or you just use it for data?

Samsung hard drive model number

if this is a samsung, on the actual HD, you will see the jumper labels like the one below.

Usually it will say:

M = Master
S = Slave
Cs = Cable select

but if it is not visible anymore and you have 4 sets of pins, then the slave may either be the 3rd or the 2nd if you are looking at it from the back.

if you have other questions just let me know.

About Harddisk Problem

Hi,

To my knowledge, NDD stands for Norton Disk Doctor and is part of the Norton System Utilities marketed by Symantec. This, I believe, is an old product and has been replaced by Norton System Works.

In effect the function of the NDD is similar to Scandisk of Windows.

Alternately, Samsung/TriGem has their own set of Utilities, one of which is Disk Manager.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
