Microsoft wireless notebook mouse 3000 won't work

Sounds like the driver isn't installed to your computer. Did the mouse come with a disc? Insert the disc into your pc and install the driver for the mouse. It should walk you through the installation process. Once the driver is installed your laptop should see the mouse and load the proper driver for it.

There is indeed a battery inside it, but if you can see the laser, then it normally has enough power. Did you try pressing the PAIR button on the bottom of it? You can also try pulling out the receiver unit from the USB socket and reinsert it.

Microsoft 4000 optical mouse

Try this - Go to control panel > mouse > hardware tab > properties > power management tab
Make sure the entry "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" is checked.

If you meant that your screen saver doesnt come on because the mouse is plugged in, it could be because the surface on which your mouse is rested is uneven or extremely smooth, causing the mouse to move, or that the mouse sensitivity properties are set very high. When not in use, try placing the mouse on a piece of dark cloth and see if this helps. Or in the steps mentioned above, make sure "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" is UNchecked. Note that you cannot use the mouse to get out of screen saver mode in this option. you will have to tap the spacebar..

Let me know how it goes.
