Question about Brother Office Equipment & Supplies

Continue to get a message to change drum soon. Changed drum already. Print quality is still not good.

I changed the drum today. The fax continues to give a message, "change drum soon". The print quality has not gotten any better either. I took the toner out and shook the cartridge, replaced it and made a copy and still cannot see the print that well.

    To Ekse
    The model is Intellifax 4750e

  • gbrown778 Oct 08, 2008

Ekse, thank you so much for your input. Our fax is the Intellifax 4750e, business class laser fax, super G3. I opened the cover, pressed options and it said, "no original", online. Its still telling me to change drum, although it has a new drum. Any other ideas?

  • gbrown778 Oct 08, 2008

    Ekse,

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!! It worked.

Now, do you have a suggestion for the bad print quality? The machine has a new cartridge of toner in it.

Model MFC-7460DN, I had to press the clear key instead of the option key. Otherwise this worked great.

Your drum unit which you have replaced have still not detected by the fax machine.you have to reset the machine when you change the drum.or replace the drum and insert the new drum in the OFF mode so it will not know if any thing changed in the machine and mostly should work as normal.

please keep updated.

Take out the drum, clean all contacts and all the inner of the printer with spray air (buttane), and try inserting the cartridge again. If this will not fix your problem your printer must be serviced.

How to reset " replace drum" for brother MFC-7860DW

Time to really order a new drum and really replace with a new one.
Resetting the drum unit will not improve print quality. It only resets your drum and allows you to continue to print. You decide when to replace the drum unit not the manufacturer!

1.Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge. Wait 1 or 2 minutes.
2.Replace the drum unit and toner cartridge into printer.
3.The error message "Change Drum Soon/Drum end soon" will continue to appear if the drum counter was not reset when you replace the drum unit.
4.To clear this error message, you need to reset the drum counter as instructed below.
5.Make sure that the machine is turned on.
6.Press Options.
To confirm you are installing a new drum, press 1.
7.When the LCD shows Accepted, close the front cover.
8.Your drum is now reset.

Did you recently replace the drum and the warning is unexpected?

Why does the message "Drum End Soon" continue to appear on the LCD after I replaced the drum?
Description:
This message would continue to appear if the drum unit counter was not reset when you installed a new drum.

To reset the drum unit counter, follow the instructions below:
  1. Press Menu on the Control Panel.
  2. Press the Up or Down Arrow key to select Machine Info..
  3. Press OK.
  4. Press the Up or Down Arrow key to select Reset Menu.
  5. Press OK.
  6. Press the Up or Down Arrow key to select Drum.
  7. Press OK.
  8. Press 1 to reset the drum unit counter.
You can use this procedure to reset a drum in order to continue to use up the remaining 'life' of the drum; recognizing that you will need to replace the drum when you start having print quality issues.

Change drum soon message won't go away after changing drum and toner. what do I need to do?

35YRTECH, aren't you being a wee bit flippant? I just changed my drum, had the same problem, and no where in mys instructions does it tell me how to inform the printer that I did reset the drum.

Anyway, here's how to do it (form the brother web site)

  • This message would appear if the drum unit is near the end of its life. Use the drum unit until you have a print quality problem, then replace the drum unit with a new one.
  • This message would continue to appear if the drum counter was not reset when you replaced the drum. To reset the drum follow the instructions below:

    1. Open the front cover.
    2. Press the Clear/Back key.
    3. Press 1 to reset.
    4. Close the front cover, pressing firmly on each side until they click into place.
