Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Here there. I have a Pavillon desktop model with XP Pro, Version 2002 with Service Pack 3. I have a C6180 all-in-one. I am also running Adobe Acrobat 8. I used to be able to scan a page and choose "scan to PDF" as an option. I don't know what I did, but the printer doesn't recognize my Adobe Printer anymore, even though my desktop recognizes the printer and will print through a network without a problem.
When I put a document on the scanner bed and choose Scan, ask for it to scan to computer, and choose save to file, I get the following error message:
"An error occurred communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure the scanning device is properly connected and try again."
I don't know what to look for. Can you help?
Unfortunately, HP.com doesn't have a very satisfying online solution to your problem. Still, there are a few things you can try.
The first is a general diagnostic check of your scanner. HP provides a doc that takes you through some steps, many of which you probably already tried, to see if it's a simple fix:

I don't know if the current situation was created by a fault in the device or some recent change in your configuration settings. I do know you can use the HP Director software installed on your computer to set the scan destination settings:
