Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Connection issue between XP Pro and HP C6180 all-in-one

Here there. I have a Pavillon desktop model with XP Pro, Version 2002 with Service Pack 3. I have a C6180 all-in-one. I am also running Adobe Acrobat 8. I used to be able to scan a page and choose "scan to PDF" as an option. I don't know what I did, but the printer doesn't recognize my Adobe Printer anymore, even though my desktop recognizes the printer and will print through a network without a problem.

When I put a document on the scanner bed and choose Scan, ask for it to scan to computer, and choose save to file, I get the following error message:

"An error occurred communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure the scanning device is properly connected and try again."

I don't know what to look for. Can you help?

    Thank you SO much. It ended up being a registry error issue and a uninstall/reinsall fixed the problem.

    When I try to scan on my c6180 through HP solution center, I get "an error has occured communicating with the scanning device". Printer works fine. I am connected through a wired nework. The other computer on the network does not have this problem and scans just fine. I spent a total of 7 hours with HP (paid for 14 day service) in two seperate sessions, the second time with a "level two" tech to no avail. The fact that the other computer is working indicates that the problem is in my computer. However something is terribly wrong with the way HP's software is designed because many thousands of users are having the same problem as can readily be seen by googling the error message. HP has by far the slowest install/uninstall time. Just to do a uninstall and reinstall can take upwards of an hour - this is no bull. The last suggestion by the level 2 tech was to do a complete clean reinstall of the operating system (XP). I can't spare the time right now since I can use the other computer in a pinch.

Hi Lynn,

Unfortunately, HP.com doesn't have a very satisfying online solution to your problem. Still, there are a few things you can try.

The first is a general diagnostic check of your scanner. HP provides a doc that takes you through some steps, many of which you probably already tried, to see if it's a simple fix:

The next document is a set of diagnostic steps to address errors trying to scan to a PDF:

I don't know if the current situation was created by a fault in the device or some recent change in your configuration settings. I do know you can use the HP Director software installed on your computer to set the scan destination settings:

I just installed windows xp service pack 3 version 2002 but after installing the operating system it says activate windows.It gave me 30 days.It's more like a trial version.I need help guys.


Windows operating systems require a valid product key in order for them to work. You would have to purchase WinXP in order to get a product key. Unfortunately, WinXP is in its last days of its product lifecycle and will not be supported. You'd be much better off trying to install Win7.

Is Windows xp professional version 2002 service pack 2 is not xp home service pack 2. is this compatible with sql server 2005? Thanks


All Service Pack 1, 2 or 3 for XPs are for Pro & Home Edition and are not meant for other Windows Version!!

As for SQL Server 2005 you can get your Latest Updates & Service Packs @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913089

Cannot install business plan pro version 11.0


Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) The latest version of Business Plan Pro 11.0 will install and run in Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3).
If you're installing the software from a CD, you may not have the latest version and could encounter a message during the installation that indicates you need Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed. Downloading the latest installer from our website will resolve that problem.

My computer will not properly install Microsoft Windows XP service pack 3. What do I need to do to fix this problem?


You need to get an official service pack 3 from microsoft's website.

The file size is about 316 mb.

If you already have this file, service pack 3 will not install if your current version of windows has errors. That means you have to reinstall Windows XP, install your pc device drivers, then install windows xp service pack 3.

Which has an nVidia nForce2 IGP chipset (see link)

AT&T requires a secure login & password generated by an everchanging private key. Be patient and allow your system to log in properly once and set the firewall to allow this connection. After that it should be easy, but, remember evry time you log into AT&T it will take a couple of minutes to connect..........................sodeep
