Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Black line on document when I scan from platen or ADF or scan to save as PDF.

When I scan to copy a document from the ADF or the platen or scan to pdf I get a black vertical line about two inches from the right side from top to bottom. When I print from the computer the document is fine but if I try to copy that same document from the platen or from the ADFscan the copy has a line down the right side. Also, if I scan that same document to save as a PDF on my computer I get the line. I never had this happen before and can't figure out what is causing this.

Help!

We are having the same problem, but under different circumstances:

Whenever we PRINT from any of our computers, the printed sheet has a vertical black line running from top to bottom on the reverse side, slightly off-centre. This has only been happening for about a year now (Printer is 2 yrs old) & I've tried doing all the maintenance/cleaning option, but they haven't fixed the problem .......

I am getting a black line line down the center of the document when either I scan or print. It appears darker when I scan and appears as a thin double faint line on the copy. How to correct?

I have the same problem. When I scan a document using the document feeder, I get a black line on the right side, about 2 inches in from the edge of the paper. This line also shows up on all faxes that I feed into the feeder.

I had the same problem.....ok to print from computer or manually from glass, but the ADF printed with line down the page. Sure enough, after reading solution, I found the nasty little "dot"....a little bit of something stuck on the glass, carefully cleaned it off....I emphasize "carefully" and voila!.....a clean copy. The dot had phtotographed down the page as the paper moved through the scanner. Thanks guys.

As a tech I've never seen that happen. from the doc feeder only Yes, not both the feeder and the glass but not show up when you print from the computer ?????????

For sure there is a dot or something on the small strip of glass, only when you do it from the feeder.
the reason is that the document is moving and the dot on the "small" strip of glass now looks like a line to the copier.

You said it also does it when you lay it down on the glass !!??(platen) that should of indicated the drum has a ring around it, but since it doesn't come out on the PC copy then the glass must have a line on it.

This won't help fix the problem, but we get the same black line when printing from the pc. It looks like one of the black inks has leaked into the bottom tray (paper exit) just the front side of the rollers as there is a huge smudge there. No idea where it comes from. Tried to clean it up but seemed to come back. ??maybe the ink leaks from the cartridge or somewhere below the cartridge???

Problem solved. There was a small speck on the glass strip that the scanned item passes over. Lift the cover to expose the platen and check the glass strip at the left end for any specks or dirt. Careful cleaning of this strip solved my problem.

Black line in paper

On what operation are you receiving the black line in your paper?

This problem usually appears when you try to scan or copy using your ADF (automatic document feeder).
To remove this black line in your paper, clean the ADF platen glass in your printer and do as well in the flatbed scanner glass. This ADF platen glass can be found right below where the documents in the ADF goes through. Its a glass about 1 inch in with and beside the flatbed scanner glass (the one where your documents is lay down for copying and scanning. Dried ink or paper residue sticked in the glass can cause this line in the paper. Clean it with a a clothe and spray some windex on it.

Good luck!

I am scanning a photo. I have translucent lines running horizontal through the picture before i print it.

Documents scanned/copied from the document feeder pass over a thin glass area where scanning occurs. Clean this area if sent faxes, copies or scans have black or white vertical lines.
  1. Lift the document cover to expose the platen glass.

  2. Wipe the ADF scan area (C) with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water.

    scannerarea.jpg

  3. Then wipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth making sure there are no residues left, especially on the platen glass.

  4. Close the document cover and make a copy of a text document to confirm the black line has disappeared.

I have lines in printed material

If a print result of faxing, copying or scanning has uneven print density, or when copies and scans you make have vertical black lines, cleaning the platen glass may solve the problem.
  1. Turn off the power and disconnect the power cord.

  2. Prepare two clean, soft, and lint-free cloths.

    Note:
Do not use tissue paper or paper towels as they may damage the machine.

  3. Open the document cover.

  4. Wipe the platen glass (D), the inner side of the document cover (white area) (C), the glass of the ADF (A), and the inner side of the ADF (white area) (B) with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water

    mp830_scanglass.gif

    (A) ADF Glass
    (B) ADF White Reference Area
    (C) Document Cover White Reference Area
    (D) Platen Glass

Note: If you have trouble wiping dirt, use diluted mild detergent (for dish washing).
    Caution:
    * Never use volatile liquids such as thinners, benzene, or alcohol; these can damage the machine.
    * The d
ocument cover white reference is easily damaged, so wipe it gently.
  5. Carefully wipe away moisture from each part with another soft, dry lint-free cloth. Do not leave any residue, especially on the platen glass.

  6. Close the document cover.

  7. Reconnect the power cord and power the machine back on.

Got a dark line down document when scanner via AFD

When you use the adf, the scanner remains stationary at the far left side of the platen. Check and make sure that the glass is very clean there; use a damp cloth to remove any dirt or other foreign material.

Black line on copies and scans - not when i print

Are you using the automatic document feeder (ADF) when copying/ scanning? If so, clean the area on the left side of the platen glass -- that is where the original document is read. There is probably some dirt or other foreign material that is blocking the scanner and causing lines.

Paper jams when using the ADF. Canon IC D780

Hi there,

When using ADF
Note:
* Set a document on the Platen Glass if you want to scan it at optimum quality,
* The area (range) within 0.08"/2mm from the top edge if document cannot be printed since the machine cannot scan it.
*Do not load the following types of documents in the ADF. They will jam.
-Wrinkled or creased paper
- Curled paper
- Torn paper
- Paper with holes
- Carbon paper or carbon-backed paper
- Surface treated paper
- Onion skin or thin paper
- Photogragh or thick paper.
1) Remove any documents from the PLaten Glass.
2) Open the Document Tray.
3) Load the document in the ADF.
Load the document with the side you want to copy, or scan face up in the ADF.
4) Adjust the Doument Guides to match the document width.
Note :
Ensure that the edge of the document stack is in line with the Paper Size Mark imprinted on the Document Tray.

Hope this helps.
Please rate my response.
Thanks
Have a good day.

How to scan picture to upload on computer

First, ensure you are connecting the scanner to your computer. I'm assuming USB connection, and that you're using an operating system supported by this device.

Next, install the drivers and software for this device. Those should have come with an installation disc, but if you don't have that disc, you can get them from the PIXMA MP830 support site, here:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=123&modelid=12804

To scan a single document, place the document:
1. Place the document face down on the platen glass.
2. Open the MP Navigator 2.2 software.
3. Click Scan Photo/Document.
4. Click Document Type drop-down arrow and select the type of document to be scanned. Chose from the following types.
  • Color Document(Simplex): Select this to scan one side of color documents.
  • Color Document(Duplex): Select this to scan both sides of color documents.
  • B/W Document(Simplex): Select this to scan one side of monochrome documents.
  • B/W Document(Duplex): Select this to scan both sides of monochrome documents.

  2. On the Windows desktop, double-click 'MP Navigator 2.2'.
    1. Alternatively, on the Windows taskbar, click 'Start', point to '(All) Programs', 'Canon', then 'MP Navigator 2.2'.
    2. Then click 'MP Navigator 2.2'. MP Navigator opens.

  3. Click 'Batch Scanning'.

Canon MultiPASS F50 won't copy but will scan

Does the copy function work if you place the document to be copied on the platen (open the cover and lay it on the glass)? If so, check the area to the left of the platen. There should be a strip of glass with a clear plastic cover over it. This area is used for scanning when feeding paper through the automatic document feeder (ADF) from the top. This area must be clean. If this area is clean and clear, it's possible that the scanner element (below the glass) is no longer going all the way to the left when using the ADF. This would be a problem that would require servicing.
