Not sure what just two shorts beeps are, but if its one long .then two short beeps read the following-- I did a quick search & that beep code does appear to mean a problem with the display adapter (aka video card). But since the "card" is integrated into the motherboard, the only way to fix it would be to have the entire board replaced. If the laptop isn't under warranty, it would probably be more cost effective to just replace the laptop. have a look at this:

Usually the beeping indicates that there is some sort of hardware failure. Most popular items in this case is RAM or the video card , but as siawolf stated , we are going to need more information to hel you further...such as the model, and if you have changed any hardware latley....thanks!

As I correctly stated in my solution , the beeps indicate that there is some sort of hardware failure. This can be your laptop's memory , video card , etc...

You need to take the laptop to a repair shop where they can swap out the memory with a diffrent one to test it. If its the video card thats shot , you would need to purchase a new motherboard and have that motherboard installed. Either way you're going to have to deal with a shop.

Laptop Windows XP has black screen, was able to us BartPE to run Scan Disk which found nothing, but still won't boot and has a black screen after removing BartPE. Is there anything else that can be done?

Hi bradley ryko

Sorry to hear you are having issues. This is a tricky one as it sounds like more than one thing has gone wrong at the same time.
Let's list what we know
1. Laptop powers up as you have used BartPE
2. OS (Operating System) may or may not be working.
3. BIOS may or may not be working

Please try connecting a different monitor (to the blue connector at the sides or back of the laptop) that you know is working and report back to me. I assume that the monitor was working as you used BartPE.

We need to get some video signal before we can do anything else. I assume when you say you have a black screen you mean the screen is not working at all. EG: you see nothing at all on it when you start the laptop. Please confirm this and report back.

Many thanks bradley_ryko

Best regards, Phil

My laptop is not fully starting up the screen is nothing but black. Every time I restart it it does the same thing again and again. I'm at my wit's end

Hi nmkinslow89,

Check your memory. try it on a different notebook if its working, if its not then its your memory is defective if not,
the motherboard or video card is the issue.

Hopefully it helps,

I don't know this particular laptop model but you could be right about the lid switch. A lot of HP laptops have a small push switch that looks like a round plasic peg placed on the keyboard panel near the screen hinge. When the lid is closed, it simply presses on the peg and turns off the screen. These switches can be dodgy sometimes but oftem if you press and release them a few times they will work ok. Don't tell your mum to look for a switch, ask her to look for a small round peg or pin near the hinge when she opens the lid and then tell her to press and release it a few times.....

HP dv6000, laptop will not start up, screen stays blank and the lights and fan turn off about every 20secs and it just keeps doing the same thing over and over again, sounds like its starting up then OFF,...

Hi civic-95-uk ,

Try performing power drain steps on thenotebook:

1) Remove the AC adapter and battery from the notebook.
2) Press the power button and hold it for a minute.
3) Reconnect the AC adapter, battery and try starting the computer.
Even if the issue is same then perform Hard drive self test from BIOS.

1. Turn on the notebook and press F10 immediately. Which will lead you to the BIOS setup screen.

2. Click on Diagnisis and choose hard drive self test. Perform both the short test and long test.
