Lite On DVD RW SHW 1635S - had it for two years with no problem but it will now not work. When I try to initialise I get the following message: "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)". Cannot find error code 37 or updates to the driver on MS website. Cannot reinstall from my software as PC does not acknowledge DVD driver so won't read the CD. Am about to throw the whole thing out of the window!!

if you physically unplug your cd/dvd restart your computer then reconnect it this should activate the found new hardware wizard or it might have a dirty lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner read the instructions before applying put 2 or 3 drops on a cd/dvd then run the cd/dvd player hope this helps
Try using a good quality dvd cleaner. The cd lens could be dirty causing cd funstions not to work. There is a different lens for the dvd so it's highly possible that one function will work but not the other if dirty. If this does not work you may have a lens that has become disoriented. If this is the case then with todays priced, decent dvd/cd burner for under $40 it would be cheaper to replace the drive than attempt to repair. Good luck & I hope this helps.
