Question about Epson Stylus C86 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Printer has completely quit printing color with new ink installed

Printer was low on colors......added new colors and now only prints in black n white with lines going through the text. Will not print colors at all.
Colors are good an ink will come out. Ran the checks and maintance on them from the Properties page and the maintance page ...this changed nothing. Now what?

    I unhooked and rehooked the printer back into the PC.....dont know if that could of done anything or not just guessing here. that did no good.

    So since it seems to be a hardware problem now what ??? Is there anything else I can do or try?

    Are you using the same brand cartridges as the old ones? Are they compatible brand or Epson brand?

In order to determine whether this is a hardware or software problem there are several steps you can take:
1.Download and install the most recent printer driver from Epson

2. Try printing out the nozzle check pattern using the Maintenance Utility. This bypasses the printer driver and allows the printer to use all cartridges to print out the patterns. This will indicate whether there are clogged heads and whether or not it will print color at all. Gaps in the patterns indicate clogged heads and you need to run the Head Cleaning utility once or several times.

3. If you get color patterns from the nozzle check (whether or not the patterns are full or have parts missing) you need to check to see if the default settings for the printer have been set to "Black Ink Only". Right click on the printer icon and select "Printing Preferences". Click on the "Advanced" button in the lower right corner and after the popup, look on the left side and see it the "Black Ink Only" box is checked. If so, uncheck it and while you are there uncheck the "High Speed" box as well. This way you don't have to deselect it in the printer dialog each time you print, especially if you are looking for a quality print each time.

4. Try the printer on another computer if you get color during the nozzle check to see if the software is corrupt on your computer.

5. If you get no color patterns at all when doing the nozzle check, it would appear that you have a hardware problem within the printer. It would be unlikely that all the colors would fail at the same time due to severe head clogging.

Hope this helps in some way.

My documents will not print the colored part. just Black and white

I would first check to see how low the color cartridge is. If it is out of ink, you will need to replace it.
Your Lexmark has two cartridges, one for colors and one for black.
To check the level of the ink cartridges, go to the Lexmark Solution Center. This is the software that was installed to run you Lexmark printer.
Check the cartridge ink level images that appear on each tab. If a cartridge is low, or if you have received an Ink Low message on the computer screen, install a new cartridge. An empty or low cartridge is marked with an exclamation point ( ! ).

To order print cartridges:

1 }}--> }}-->Open the }}--> }}-->Lexmark Solution Center .

2 }}--> }}-->Click the Contact Information tab.

3 }}--> }}-->Click Ordering Ink and Supplies.
For help installing a cartridge, go to How to install the print cartridge.

Wouldn't print black-and-white if the color cartridge is empty

Select true black and white. Any other setting uses the colour cartridge to sharpen the printing.

Won't print because color cartridge is empty and l don't need color

Try changing printing preferences/properties. Click on option for color, then click on box for "black ink only" or similar. Try now. If you still cannot print after changing preferences/properties, you will need to replace color ink cartridge due to manufacturer's built-in software that prevents printing when ink is low. Great for the ink companies!!!

HP 932 RED LIGHT STAYS ON

The light you describe is the ink light.
When that light is blinking, try this.

Turn on the printer. Open the front cover and look at the carrier for the ink cartridges. There is a white arrow right above the latch for the color cartridge.
Once the carrier stops moving, the white arrow should be pointing to a symbol which represents the problem (the reason the light is blinking.) Examples are low ink black, low ink color, sick black ( replace ) , sick color ( replace ).

IF you have just replaced your black cartridge, you might need to replace your color cartridge too.
This printer will not work without both ink cartridges installed and full.
You cant print with a full black and an empty color cartridge unfortunately, even if you only want to print black.

Hope this helps!

0% color ink

We cannot bypass the color ink check, since the all-in-one uses little amount of even the color ink to print in black. Once check the expiry date of the color cartridge and clean the copper contacts of the cartridge and reinsert it again and then try to print. If the issue still persists replace the color cartridge and check for the result, if we experience the same issue even after replacing the color cartridge then the issue is with the all-in-one.

Colored Ink problem

Make sure the printer settings are set properly to print in color on the PC. Even if there is a color cartridge, if the PC only tells it to print black ink it's not going to use the color cartridge.
