Fuji Industires Liquid-Cooled engine - 499cc

I purchased a 4 wheeler which has a Fuji Industires Liquid-Cooled 499cc engine. I have about 40 miles on the 4 wheeler. By the way, we have six 4 wheelers and have no problems with any of the others.

The problem I have is that the engine is extremely hard to start. It seems as if during the compression stroke the battery and starter are not strong enough to turn the engine. I have replaced the battery and starter with heavy duty units and it did not make any difference at all. The engine does not spin beyond the compression stroke without help.

The help I provide to start it is that when I connect a battery starter with a stronge start option and spray starting fluid into the carb intake I am able to get the engine to turn beyond the compression stroke and the engine starts easily.

Do you have any ideas or advise related the starting of the engine? I have asked the dealer that I bought the 4 wheeler and they said that the starter might be binding due to a problem with the starter shaft bushing. They instructed me to drill out the bushing .001 of an inch and the problem should go away. I did drill it our and it did not make any difference, it still does not turn beyond the compression stroke without help.

I loosened the cover that is over the starter and starting gears and attempted to start the engine and was able to get it to spin, however, to me it was dangerious because the cover was very loose.

Do you have any ideas? I was wondering if the starting gear shaft was a bit too long and is causing a binding problem. I have the equipment to adjust the length of the shaft but thought I would seek some advise before I do that.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance for your response.

SOURCE: Little to no injector pulse only when starter is engaged

95-97 Maximas had a problem where condensation from the A/C would accumulate in the a/c evaporator case from the drain becoming restricted or blocked, When this would occur, condensation would drip onto the ECM and a problem would develop with misfire and/or starting. I would look at the ECM where the harness connects to it for corrosion problems. If you find it, there is a chemical spray which can be used to clean the terminals and/or you can clean them, although it is time consuming and difficult to due because of how small the terminals are. After things are cleaned up, lightly coat the connections with a dielectric grease. This will prevent electrolysis.I believe you can buy these at Radio shack and possibly at an automotive parts supplier.
Also a drop in voltage during the cranking phase will cause a weak spark. Your ignition is what pulses the injectors. It takes a minimum of 9.6 volts, but ideally you want at least 10.5 or more during the cranking phase if you want to get a spark worth anything. Check the voltage on the primary side of the coil while cranking the engine.
I'll watch to see if things work out for you, let me know. ....mybunkey

SOURCE: 1994 S10 Blazer Tahoe starting problems

Well, obviously someone didn't tell you the truth because spraying into intake doesn't make the vehicle turn over any better. You have ignition or fuel delivery problem. Start by taking fuel line off at intake and crank engine a couple times catching any gas in a cup or something. If none, then trace fuel line back and under vehicle til you find filter. Should be under driverside midway back on inside of frame. Change this and try test again. If no gas, see if fuel pump is on motor(mechanical pump). Change this and test again. If not on motor then it's in gas tank(electric pump). Most cases the tank has to be lowered to take out pump, careful not to drop, dent or make sparks. Some came with access through the floor so check that first. Normally you can hear an electric pump come on when you turn the key. Good Luck

Check the cooling liquid qty. I feel engine piston is seizing. Replace the engine coolant as per the manufacture's recommendation.

Liquid cooled.

Water cooled engines allow for a much more compact construction and a defined cooling on a wider operation band.

And no. Water Cooling should not be disabled under any circumstands, except you want to kill the engine. It would be killed, even on the north pole.

Air cooled engines have a much simpler design and production costs, also much lighter usualy, But need a lot of space. Also the heat distribution can be challinging construtructive task.

Oil cooling is available for both cooling models, but usualy only with 4-stroke engines. It just adds more cooling to the engine
