Ink keeps leaking from the printer!

Help! Ink from the large black cartridge keeps leaking out the front of the printer (where the paper comes out). We've had this printer for over 2 years and it didn't have this problem until recently. None of the other inks leak except for the #5 black. We tried changing cartridges and it still leaks. What can be the problem and what can we do??? SS.

We've been having the same problem for about a year now (Printer is 2 yrs old).

It creates a black line of ink on the reverse side, down the middle of the paper ......

    ????????

My MP830 is less than a year old and I have the same problem. I have never used anything but authentic canon cartridges. It goes through far too much ink compared to my previous model the 780.

This printer has been the BIGGEST disappointment and I am done with canon.

Yes! We are now having the same problem. Huge black streak down the
middle back of every page! What a pain! I tell you, it seems that one
year is about the lifetime of printers these days. Servicing one of
these is expensive. Better to buy a new one, but that is so horribly
    wasteful.

  • Anonymous Dec 15, 2008

yes I have the same problem with black ink coming out from under the rollers where the paper feeds out the front what can I do to stop this problem?

  • Anonymous Mar 26, 2009

I have the MP480. Only had it a couple of months and I have gone through 5 cartridges. I have to buy a new cartridge every month and sometimes less than a month.. This was not so when I used HP. I am getting rid of this printer as fast as I can and I will never buy anything canon again!

  • Anonymous Mar 26, 2009

I am VERY disappointed with this printer.  It eats ink and now it's spewing all over everything I print.  Given the high cost of service, it's cheaper to buy a new beast, which is horrible from an environmental standpoint.

The problems you are experiencing are due to ink buildup in the ink absorbers that reside in the base of the printer. I'm surprised that you did not get a "ink absorber almost full" message. Unfortunately this occurs when more ink (heavy printing) goes in to this area than the ink absorbers can absorb and the ink starts to build up. An ink waste tube feeds in to the absorbers right in the front middle of the printer. When the ink begins to build up, it comes up through the paper platen there in the front causing the ink problems on the back of your paper.

The machine will need to be serviced. Canon suggest replacing all of the ink absorbers which is the easiest thing to do from a Tech perspective. The last machine I had in with this problem, I tore down machine and just rinsed all of the absorbers. You also have to rinse the underside of the paper platen.

Yeah this is due to the ink pads being blocked at front causing the ink to comne out off the machine. there is a updated part to over come this problem. Or the ink type has come off or blocked. This could be caused by fake inks but does also happy with canon inks.

This make a alot of mess, the only think i can say is to call out a service engineer. I have contacts that will do this in the uk. if you need to know more let me know.,

The small black ink cartridge is the photo black cartridge. If you're not printing any photos that's why it is still full.

SOURCE: What is the purpose of the small black in cartridge

They are both described as black but the larger one is "pigment" black. So the answer is they will not switch over because they are different inks and different sizes.

My printer goes through the motion of printing but the paper comes out blank. I've an hp deskjet d2360 and there is ink in it

Possibility cartridge print head dry.

Solution 1:
Do a clean process
cartridge automatically. Press START - Control Panel - Printers and Faxes - HP Deskjet d2360 right click and select Printing Preferences - Select the Color tab - select Printer Services - select Clean cartridge, wait for the cleaning process is completed - Perform Test print. If the print test results, has good graphics, press Finish. If the graph is not clear or drop out, repeat the cleaning process once again.

Solution 2:
1. Open the cover printer, cartridges will move to the middle position.
2. Remove the cartridge (be careful, do not touch the element cartridges or print head by hand), then stick the tip cartridge (print head) to clean water
3. Then, attach the print head to a tissue paper. If there is a tissue paper used in ink (black cartridges, black block lines, and color cartridges, three color red yellow blue lines), means the flow of ink to the print head is normal. If the
tissue paper no trace of ink, attach back into the water, repeat the above process.
4. After process is complete no.3, clean the cartridges with a tissue paper (careful, do not touch the element cartridges or print head by hand, because it will damage the cartridge). After cartridge clear of the water, insert the cartridges into printer.

The problem is not with the ink-cartridges. You've proved that, by swapping BLACK cartridges.

The problem is that the ink-jets that spray the BLACK ink onto the paper are clogged.
Thus, no BLACK ink reaches the paper.

Open the HP Printing Assistant, and open Utilities, and run a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to try to unclog the print-head.

The black ink wont work, even though i have put in a brand new cartridge. the tri color works fine, but the black ink must have something funky going on

Try the following things:
  1. remove the cartridge make sure that you have removed any tape or guards that came with the cartridge to keep the ink from leaking
  2. try gently squeezing the cartridge. if you can get a drop to come out of the cartridge.
  3. if you cannot get a drop out, put the head of the cartridge on a piece of a dampened napkin or paper towel. You should see some black bleeding out of the head. Sometimes, it can take awhile for the ink to loosen up.
  4. reinstall the cartridge and run the head cleaning program for your printer if you have one

QUESTION FOR DON_FARR

whenever you print greyscale what actually happen is that the printer mixes the red, blue and yellow to give the output in gray scale. See if you mix red, blue and yellow ink in the right proportion it gives you very close to black. just try to print your greyscale with your black ink finished you will still get the same print quality as when the black has ink in it. Or find a way seal the nuzzle of the black in and print your greyscale. check what results.

My epson stylus photo printer is printing a black vertical line in all my prints. I have done the head cleaning and print head alignment several times. Is there anything else I can do?

black vertical lines on the printout comes due to some reasons.
1) if the black cartridge is near to its end it will give black lines instead of proper printing.
the cartridges gets over many times due to head cleaning and deep cleaning.in 3-4 cleanings cartridge gets over.in one cleaning 4 ml of ink gets puled out of cartridge.the whole quantity of cartridge is near to 25 ml.
but if the cartridge is full then the problem is of cartridge head .the head is the part in which you insert the cartridges if the head is got blocked internally to its holes from where ink comes out.then there are two methods to clean the head one is head cleaning which you did.the other is removing the head by disassembling the printer and then cleaning the head manually with isoprophyll liquid.but its a time consuming and tough job.a local printer repair center will be advisable,
and in some cases it has seen that cartridge gets air pressure problem inside and due to that it leaks inside the printer so replacing that cartridge solves the problem.also many times the cartridge gets leaked and that leaked ink gets collected and stuck up on the roller of the printer from where paper passes so the strips of ink gets printed on the paper.in this case no head cleaning but cleaning the internal roller of the printer with tissue paper helps.the procedure is called servicing.that can also be done at local printer repair center.or you can do it manually by using tissue paper.but to service whole printer it needs to be disassemble.
check out his option.thanks.

If you were using an original cartridge, contact HP and they will probably ask you to mail in the faulty cartridge.

If you were using a refilled cartridge you might have to buy a new printer.

Large black ink tank is not being used by the printer.

The little cartridges are pigment for photo printing. The Large black cart is ink for plain paper (usually text) printing. If you select a photo paper in the print setup menu, you will use very little of the ink.
To check the function of the large cart print out a test sheet from the printer maintenance menu. You may need to run a head cleaning to get all the nozzles to work.

Leaking black in from the bottom of the printer

actually your printer needs servicing but for temprory solution.take a bunch of tissue paper .keep the printer on and the printer cover open so the cartridge will be in the center.then with the tissue paper place it internally on the side from where its leaking.the sponge which collects the wastage ink is at present got full and now it does not have the capacity to soak the ink.so its leaking.as you will place the tissue papers the ink will be soaked by tissue paper and the sponge will again become bit dry to soak more ink.but its the temprory solution.to make it permanent get the printer serviced and sponge replaced.the problem is not all serious ,its common.every printer comes to this stage after certain usage.and the servicing is the solution.a local printer repair shop also does the servicing job .
hope this helps.
thanks.

Print cartridges

  1. When one or more ink cartridges are empty, for example, Black, the LCD shows “Ink Empty Black” and “Open Cover.” Close the printer’s document support and the document tray.
  2. Lift the top cover to the open position until it locks securely into place.
  3. Pull the ink cartridge hook toward the front of the printer and remove the color ink cartridge displayed on the LCD. Place the cartridge in a plastic bag as it may still contain some residual ink and may leak.
  4. Open the new ink cartridge bag for the color shown on the LCD and remove the new ink cartridge. The cartridge cover may come off when you open the bag. This is not uncommon and will not damage the cartridge.
  5. Each color has its own correct position that is clearly labeled and color coded inside the printer. Keep the ink cartridge in an upright position when you insert it into slot. It will only fit in the correct direction. Press down on the ink cartridge until the hook snaps over it.
  6. If you replaced an ink cartridge while “Near Empty” was displayed on the LCD, the LCD may ask you to verify that the replacement cartridge was brand new one. Example: “Did You Change Black? 1.Yes 2.No.” For each new cartridge you installed, press 1 on the dial pad to automatically reset the ink dot counter for that color. If the ink cartridge you installed is not a brand-new one, select 2.
