ATI ALL-in Wonder Pro Problem

By Beresford - usenet poster

Please, please can anyone help :-

My system :

PII - 233
QDI Legend V motherboard
ATI ALL-in Wonder Pro Problem - AGP 4MB
64MB SDRAM
Windows 95 with USB support

After installing the graphics driver and video player software for the
above card (version 5.00) I don't have any of the TV/ teletext options.
I have reinstalled the drivers and software literally hundereds of times
to no avail. Has anyone experienced similar problems or does anyone
have any suggestions as to the cause of the problem.

Tim

PS. The installation software freezes my PC (after running setup). This
is caused by a process
called bios16, which reports as not responding. If I double click on
bios16 program first and then run the setup everythings OK. Strange eh?

This is apparently normal... there is a long pause on my PII machines
as well. It takes so long that Task Manager can report that the task
is "Not Responding", yet, it works fine if you wait it out.

Dear All,

Problem solved! Thanks for all your replies. It appears that the bios16
process was not actually hanging it was simply taking an extremely long time
to run. I waited and waited and after about 3 minutes my pc came back from
the dead and the software installed, weird or what? After spending the best
part of a week trying to install one piece of software my life can once
again return to normal,

Guys, I DO NOT work for ATI , but they have the best tech support it has
ever been
my pleasure to need to contact. Check them out !

They told me not to use the latest player (for reasons unknown other than
"it sucks").
They got me back working again with the 5.0 Drivers.

Once you load that new player YOU ARE SCREWED until you deinstall
everything and reinstall in the proper order. They'll talk you through
it

Same here! I had the 4.35 drivers on the system from January. All was okay.
Then I tried out the 5.0 drivers & player. First, the BIOS16 kept crashing
the system and I had a heck of a time actually getting the drivers & player
installed. Once I had, however, the TV Tuner didn't appear in the player!
So, I uninstalled them and tried to reinstall the 4.35 drivers, and *it's*
BIOS16 nowl crashes! Fortunately, I tried this *after* copying my old hard
drive to a new one a week earlier. I re-copied my old system back again and
everything's now well. But what gives? BIOS16 seems *very* unstable.

Tim,

I had the same exact problem. Whatever the hell that Bios 16 thing is,
it won't load on my system. It freezes the install program.

My system:

PII333/Abit LX6 mobo/128 mb ram/Voodoo II/AIW Pro

Anyway, I was going out of my mind. I bought the card for the
television function, and now here was some crazy installer that
wouldn't just lob the software on the computer.

I downloaded the newest AIW Pro drivers from the ATI web pages and
used these instead of the files on the CDROM -- and it seemed to work
okay.

It still took an abnormally long time for the installer to get through
this initial BIOS 16 thing, but it eventually did install. Go figure.

Did you manage to get yours installed?

Hi Tim.

I had the ATI AIW PRO built into this new system of mine (built for me by
TC Computer). I thought I would be slick and download the latest version
of the ATI player (version 5) from the website. Once I did this, I too lost
all TV and capture related stuff (only two buttons on the top edge of the
screen).

I was unable to deinstall it and reinstall my original player (I could do
this,
but it changed nothing).

I called their tech support (DO THIS ! THEY ARE THE GREATEST !!).

They walked me through taking the system back down to bare bones
and reinstalling the version 5 drivers and DirectX 5, and my OLD
player software (the support guy thought the new one sucked).

All is well again.

I am very fond of my ATI AIW PRO and will not screw it up again !!!

Anyway, do call their support line. A human will answer, no delays or
recordings or endless waiting. They WILL help you.
