Question about RCA D52W20 52" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Zapping After the TV has been on for a while, it will start zapping. This is like light and sound in a small area of the screen but it continues in different locations. I shut it off and unplugged it for a while. Plugged it back in and it started doing it again after it got warmed up. My son-in-law thinks it is the power supply. What do you think.

Lennox air purifier zapping sound

This may be an electronic style air filter which causes a bug zapper noise when "zapping" dust. I was out doing some research myself on them which is how I came upon your question. It seems they need to be cleaned carefully; which I am seeking instructions for. Best of luck in your ventures! Do some research, they are expensive to repair if you break them in the process of trying to clean or remove them. This page did a decent job at explaining the why it zaps part. http://dhclimatecontrol.com/filter.htm

There is a blue spark and bug zapping sound-looks like its sparking on the ceramic ozone plate. The place looks fine-no cracks.

It's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. The bug zapping sound is from dust particles in the air, that's being pulled thru the unit. However, it should not being doing in continuously (unless your home is really dusty), it may simply need cleaning. Cleaning the unit, about once a month is recommended.

Hope this helped you.

51MP392H/17 Makes Zapping sound on power up. No picture or sound. Has been reset/unplugged. When powering up makes a sound like a bug zapper for about 1/2 second. Power light stays on and I can hear the tv...

The Zapping sound you are referring to is most likely due to arcing of the flyback(high voltage transformer). It is strongly recommended that you do not turn on the tv and have a tech test the flyback and replace it. The FBT generates voltages of about 30000V and should not be handled by someone who has not worked on high voltage electronics before.

Makes a zapping noise when you turn on the electronic air cleaner

If the the "zapping" noise you hear is intermitant (like a Bug Zapper) it's probably dust that the air cleaner is picking up from the household air. .If that's the case, there's nothing to worry about, it's doing it's job.

If the "zapping" sound is continuous, then the unit may need cleaning, as it may be clogged with dust & lint.

While watching the tv I heard a loud zapping sound and the screen has no pic. Sound is find - but no pic. What should I check?

Check the fuse on the y-sustain board it is probably open circuit. I suspect the zapping sound is one of the IC's on the buffer board has blown (this would cause the Y-sustain fuse to blow) this is the board on the left hand edge that is connected to the Y-sustain board, there is more than one & if you inspect them closely you will probably see one that has cracked, if this is the case then replace this board. Then replace the Y-sus fuse.
