I have a Sony DRU-820A DVD burner that I've used for a couple of years with great success (burned +R as well as DL disks fine). A few months ago, however, I was trying to burn a DVR recording using Roxio Easy Media Creator 9, and, after the encoding process, the blank disk was ejected with a message that there was insufficient disk space (I set Roxio to fit the file to the disk).
I've found that by right-clicking on the drive, and selecting the Properties, Windows reports the disk capacity as 4,700,045,312 bytes, while there is 4,181,899,264 bytes free and 518,146,048 bytes used (also Windows also reports the disk as being blank). I can put the same DVD disk into a Sony DRU-710A burner on another PC, and it will report 4,700,372,992 bytes as both the capacity and free space, with 0 bytes used; this is closer to what I would expect. These numbers are consistent for any of the DVD+R disks that I've tried, from 2 different media manufacturers.
The 820A drive is configured as the Master on the Secondary IDE channel, using UDMA4, and is the only drive on the channel. It is also using a new 80 wire cable. The OS is Windows XP Pro, SP3, and the drive has been flashed with the 1.0C firmware. More than likely, I've done something extremely simple and stupid to screw this up, but I can't find anything. Any suggestions on how I can get full use of my disks will be greatly appreciated.
