Getting the back off my washing machine!

This will make you laugh. I am trying to put a new drain pump in my washing machine, but after taking the top off and removing the 3 screws on the back there seems no way to remove the back section. There are visually two separate parts front and back and nothing else apart from the screws seems to be holding the back section on so how do you get it off???

tnx for the reply, can not find an instruction manual of your unit. top cover is off, can you see the water pump?..trace the drain hose..it is attached to its end.

figure out how to get to it, maybe could be access from the bottom.

    tnx, drcool

After getting around to the back of the machine, I found that all that was needed was for the backsplash to be shifted to the left and then it lifted straight out. For lack of a better word, the three tabs had horizontal slots that when properly installed held the backsplash in so it wouldn't lift out or separate accidentally.

The agitator in my washer won't agitate. I am able to pull the agitator right out of the machine

Hi,
There is a high possibility for a washing machine to not spin or drain is the pump. With the back panel still off the washer, check the pump with the voltmeter to ensure that the pump is getting power. If the washer is getting power, turn on the washer and listen to find out if the pump is running but the water is still not draining. It may be necessary to remove the pump and clean it or to replace the pump with a new one. Once the pump is replaced, turn on the washer to determine if it will now drain and spin. Thanks for contacting fixya.com

Does not drain

this model as well as many other frontloaders has a perpencity to get things caught in the pump
if you can pull out the machine take off the back wall,, you will see the pump, put the unit into drain,
can you hear a hum or sound of any kind,
if so its probably working but just hanging up,
take off the hoses and inspect the pump
dont forget to unplug the machine, and be prepared to loose about 12 cups of water or more

YOU NEED TO CHECK THE WATER PUMP,SO LAY THE MACHINE ALL THE WAY DOWN ON ITS FRONT,NOW YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THE PUMP.Remove any debris that may be lodged inside of it.

Error Code FL

I've had this issue three times. On the first case, I found my external drain hose ( the hose from your washing machine to the drain in your wall) was clogged with a penny. The original external drain hose has a valve that keeps water from coming back into the washing machine. The penny had lodged in the vlave. On the second occassion, a piece of a hankerchief was caught in the drain pump. This pump has a "propeller" that pulls the water out of the washing machine and pushes it out to the external drain hose. I took it off the drain pump motor and tried to clean it. The original pump is solid and you can't take it apart to clean it. I did the best I could, then put it back on. It made a loud noise when draining. Whirlpool no longer sales just the drain pump, you have to buy a complete new pump and motor combo. It costs about $70 on e-bay (new). It is fairly easy to install (30 min). The good thing about the new pump is that you can take the cover of the pump off without taking the pump motor off. The third time I took the pumpef cover off and found a penny lodged in the pump. After taking it out, the machine ran well.

Note 1: A good way to drain your washing machine is to take a hose pipe and put it in the top of the machine and then use a manual air mattress pump (in reverse mode) on the opposite end of the hose that you put outside. After several pumps on the air mattress pump sucking the water through the hose, you will create a suction that will keep flowing until much of the water is out of your tub. Be ready with several containers to catch the rest of the water when you take the hoses off the pump.

Note 2: Check pockets well to keep things from getting into the drain system. Use a delicate wash bag (a mesh bag) to wash undergarmets, hose, hankerchiefs, and other thin items that might get sucked into the drain system.

Cl error

From Terybul:

I took the cover off the drain pump and found a penny lodged in it. Please note this is a new drain pump and motor combo that I replaced on the machinge approx 5 months ago. The original pump is solid and you can't take it apart to clean it. If there is a piece of clothing in it, you can try to pull it out. I did this before when I had the original pump, but it never worked the same ... it made a loud humming noise when spinning. I bought the replacement piece off e-bay for about $70. It was fairly easy to install. The new pump is easy to take off and check ... it has only 4 screws. Try to drain the machine as much as possible and have several containers ready to catch the water or you will have a flood ... see note 1.

Before you do all this, check the external drain hose ( the hose from your washing machine to the drain in your wall) was clogged with a penny. The original external drain hose has a valve that keeps water from coming back into the washing machine. On an occassion one year ago, I found a penny that had lodged in the valve and kept it from draining and thus the "FL" code.
