Question about Dell 3100cn Laser Printer
This error, 004-321, is that the MCU can not receive the output signal from the IBT ( intermediate belt transfer assy) at the specified timing.
There are several possible causes for this.
1) the IBT unit is defective. even if it is new, in rare instinses, they can be out of the box defects.
try reinstalling the old unit and determine if the same error exists. If that error goes away, the new unit is defective. request an RMA from the supplier and replace with a known good one.
2) the IBT sensor is defective ( or dirty... toner dust obstructing sensor ). This sensor is located at the left hand side of the metal cross bar underneath the IBT when removed. Try blowing out the sensor with a can of compressed air. Be careful not to spray this at the toner cartridges directly as this will just blow more toner up into the air, and the fine toner dust should not be inhaled. I would suggest putting a paper towel between the sensor and the cartridges before using the compressed air for that reason.
There are other possible causes for this error, all of which are far more expensive to repair and even less likely to be the cause, as your printers were working before changing the ibt's out.
Good luck :)
