Downloaded drive to fix x8350 compatibility with Dell/Windows Vista. It prints from printer screen but not from computer.

sometimes there are compatibility issues with windows vista. Uninstall all other exisitng drivers of printers. Install the downloaded driver again and the software too. If it doesnt work then i think you must get it back with xp.

Yes this printer will work with Windows Vista and you just need to use the driver for Vista, You can download the Vista driver from this link and after you download it you can now run the software and follow the wizard for the printer installation for your Vista computer.

Unfortunately, Lexmark has not as of yet released a driver for your machine x8350 that is compatible with Windows 7. The list of printers that currently have drivers for Windows 7 is here: Lexmark Windows 7
Although the trend is to blame the printer manufacturer, the issue is on Microsoft. They tend to release operating systems without giving manufacturers sufficient time to create software to run their devices. The same thing happened with the release of XP and Vista. Sorry, wish I had better news.

First, go to this page: Lexmark X8350 Support

Click on the Downloads tab. You will notice that there are 2 Vista drivers:one for 64-bit (X64) and one for 32-bit. If you are not sure which one you have, go to your Control Panel and select System. if you have a 64-bit system, it will say so in the window. If it doesn't say, assume it is a 32-bit system.

Once you determine which yours is, select the proper one and click on Download Now to the right of that driver. When you get a download window, select Save and direct it to save it to your Desktop.

When the download is complete, close all your open programs. Make sure you uninstall the previously installed Lexmark software and delete the printer from the Control Panel Printers option.

Follow the same Setup procedure as before, except instead of inserting a CD you will run (double-click) the file on the desktop that you downloaded. Follow the instructions given as it installs.

I fixed this by completely uninstalling the Lexmark software, then unplugging the USB and restarting. I then installed the new Lexmark software that I downloaded from their site, make sure not to plug the USB back in until it told me to. It then detected the printer properly and started working.

First, shut down your computer and priner. Unplug both from the wall outlet, Unplug the printer from the computers USB receptical. Next, plug both the computer and printer back into the wall, and turn on ONLY THE COMPUTER. After the computer is fully initialized, plug the printer into the computer's USB socket and turn printer on. A small window on your screen should say:NEW HARDWARE FOUND. it will ask if you want it installed, click on YES. and just follow the onscreen instructions, and make sure your printer driver is compatible with VISTA..To check, go to http://support.dell.com and left click on WINDOWS VISTA SUPPORT. Left click on LATEST VISTA DRIVER UPDATES, and follow the onscreen instructions to check what you have now, and what you may have to download.. If, after downloading and installing VISTA COMPATIBLE SOFTWARE,you still get the communication message, try this: On the windows screen, left click on START. left click on CONTROL PANEL, then left click on PRINTERS. Find your Dell printer icon and RIGHT CLICK on the icon.. On the drop down menu, left click on PROPERTIES. On the Properties window, left click on the PORTS tab. Make sure USB VIRTUAL PRINTER PORT FOR DELL is checked. If no, select that port, left click on the check box, also check ENABLE BIDIRECTIONAL SUPPORT and ENABLE PRINT SPOOLING boxes. Then left click on APPLY, then Ok. The Dell printer icon should show READY. Try a test print to check operation.
