Transfer to new computer

I am not sure what you are asking. This is an external drive that can be moved from PC to PC and used just like a USB flash drive. What type of data are you trying to transfer? What is the source? What is the destination?

Don't know to transfer my PC hard drive to my Seagate external hard drive (1T)

You can copy paste the contents or cut and paste or right mouse click on contents and click "send to....external drive" Once the contents is on the external drive this can be taken to another PC and copied back. Caution: Some contents can be very LARGE and take a LONG time to be copied! It is advisable to run a BACKUP every now and then. And be sure your external drive is working correctly (Scandisk).

How to install a USB flash drive

Just plug your USB flash drive into the USB port of your computer or other USB-equipped device and drag the files you want to take with you into the folder that appears on your screen. Your files are instantly transferred to your USB flash drive. To transfer the items on your USB flash drive onto another computer, simply plug your USB flash drive into the computer that you want the files transferred to, open the folder that appears on your screen, and drag the desired files onto the computer's desktop.

1.) Insert Flash Drive into the USB Port of your computer.

-Where is my USB port? It is usually found in newer model computers in a hidden compartment on the front of the hard drive and in the back of the hard drive on older computers. The port for laptops is found on the side or back of the computer.

2.) Wait for the hardware to automatically install on your computer.

After the hardware is installed, it is ready to use!

3.) In most cases, an Options Window will automatically open. Select "Open folder to view files" Click "OK."

We are converting from a PC to an iMac. We backed up all files to the flash drive which is a NTFS format. I soon discovered the MAC is not compatible with it and I cannot transfer my files. It seems...

The MAC can read PC formatted USB flash drives BUT the USB flash drive MUST be formatted in FAT32 not NTFS.
I have a MAC and I also transfer photos from my PC to my daughter's MAC notebook.
You can also transfer files from the MAC to the PC using these FAT32 formatted USB flash drives.

Hello

OK, firstly you will need to understand that there is a couple of factors which play a role in the transfer speeds to your flash drive from your computer. Firstly, does your computer support USB 1.1 or USB 2.0?

If it only supports USB 1.1 your transfer speed will be round about 1.5 MB/s.
Also, test your memory stick on another computer, and see if the transfer speed is still so slow.

If it is, you can try the following steps to optimize your drive for performance.

  1. Delete all files from the drive.
  2. Go to My Computer and right-click on the flash drive, choosing Properties from the context menu.
  3. In the window that appears, click on the Hardware tab.
  4. Find the flash drive in the list of devices, click on it once and then hit the Properties button.
  5. In the new dialogue, click on the Policies tab.
  6. Select the "Optimize for performance" option if it isn't selected already and hit OK.
  7. Hit OK again to get out of the original Properties dialogue.
  8. Go to My Computer and right-click on the flash drive again, this time choosing the Format option from the context menu.
  9. In the subsequent dialogue, choose the NTFS file system from the drop-down.
  10. Select the Quick Format option.
  11. Hit OK and wait as your flash drive is formatted with the new file system.
  12. When the final dialogue appears, letting you know that the drive has been formatted, you're good to go.
If none of the above works, your circuit of the flash drive is damaged. If still in the warranty period, you need to get it replaced.

Kind regards
Andrea

How do i download data onto my scandisk

chaqhat4

You would access it from My Computer like your normal harddrive. Note if the removable drive is showing up in My Computer then this is a sign that another device is already been assigned to the drive your USB drive wants by default. The links below will help you assign a drive letter to the USB drive.

I have a 16GB Cruzer Flash Drive. When I try to transfer a file that is just under 8GB to the Flash stick, it tells me there isn't enough room....

Check the propeties of the Flash drive. It it most probably formatted using the FAT32 file system, which does not allow files larger than 2GB.
There is a way to format a flash drive using NTFS file system, but you will lose some capacity of the drive, and transfer speed will be a bit slower, gaining in return a possibility to transfer larger files.
