Hello Gadd,
I AM VERY INTERESTED TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION , YOURS IS A SIMPLE PROBLEM BUT I KNOW THAT IT IRRITATES US VERY MUCH.
THE SOLUTION FOR THIS IS
CLEAN THE LENS OF YOUR DVD PLAYER MAKE SURE THAT YOU SWITCH OFF THE PLAYER WHILE OPENING THE OUTER CABINET.OK....
IF THEN ALSO YOUR PROBLEM PERSISTS CHANGE THE LENS OF YOUR PLAYER .
IF THEN ALSO PROBLEM PERSISTS CHECK OUT FOR MOTHER BOARD AND USING A BLOWER FOR 2-3 SEC ON THE MOTHER BOARD AND SWITCH ON YOUR PLAYER .
IF STILL PROBLEM IS THERE PLEASE CHANGE THE MOTHER BOARD OF YOUR PLAYER .
WISH YOUR PRROBLEM GETS CLEARED SOON
THANK YOU

Some of the common causes of this issue can be found below.
  1. Take the disc out of the unit.

    • Verify that the disc is clean and not scratched.

    • If disc does not appear to be clean wipe it with a soft lint free
      cloth.

  2. Try other discs. Verify that they are clean and not scratched.

  3. Unplug the unit for 2-3 minutes.

  4. After plugging the unit back in, try multiple discs to see if they
    work.

  5. If problems persist I would have to say there is something over heating and it cant be fixed or is not worth the cost of fixing

The DVD skips about half way through a program. The same DVD works fine in our desktop computer. Can this problem be fixed? If so, how?

If it is a dvd copy of something, or was made on a computer...some dvd players have a hard time reading the disc consistently. Try with a normal store bought dvd, and see what happens. Also, the lens could use a cleaning. A good thing to have is a cd/dvd lens cleaner disc. hope this helps

I have never had a problem with my DVD player until now.My Philips DVD player will not recognize series disks (Bones Season 3) nor will it recognize burned disks. When it does finally play, it skips and...

The symptoms you describe all point in the direction of the player's laser power going down.

When this happens, your player will start to develop problems with DVD-R(W), not recognising the TOC (table of content) of a disc and therefore refuse to play it, skip tracks, etc.

Since there is quite a bit of variation in the reflective properties of various discs, your player may work fine with some discs and not so fine - or not at all - with others.

Unless you have the service manual and know how to tweak the laser output - which is a critical thing to do - I fear your player is reaching the end of its life.

Do not try using cleaning discs as these are more likely to cause damage than the clean your player's lens. If you want to have a go at the player's internals, then first read all the useful tips on this site: http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/cdfaq.htm

Good luck.

DVD plays well until it stutters midway thru and

If it only happens with one disc, try using a Disc Doctor/Skip Doctor on it. These instruments will repair scratches and depending on the disc, repair pinholes in the disc. Usually it's just polishing the surface of the disc. Some instruments totally resurface the disc by stripping off a thin layer of the disc to remove scratches and other damage. (Used game/music stores will do this).

The door to the dvd player is stuck partway open on my zenith vcr / dvd combo player

the gears on the drawer skipped a few teeth. as crazy as this sounds, give it a stern whack back in. if the plastic teeth are flexible enough to skip teeth one way, it'll be flexible enough to skip some the other way.

I place dvd in and after loading it saids please eject the disc playback feature may not be available on this disc. i tried one of my dvd's, and it did the same thing.

well, maybe by having the player un-plugged overnight i will see a difference tomorrow, but for now i had to buy an upgrade DVD player, the laser eye cleaners only clean small scratches in the eye and the main problem from that is when all of the dvds played either skip or freeze, in this case the dvd will not spin or load the disc menu, good luck!
