Hello,

Without the specifics, I would initially assume that it may either be the power supply or the motherboard, or both that has been damaged. That is very common after lightning.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate this information.

Thanks

My e-machine t5010 wouldn't come on. Replaced power supply. Now when turned on, it will run for about 5 seconds, then shuts off. Will not come on again until unplugged and power is drained. Plug...

Sounds like you have motherboard damage. Visually check the motherboard capacitors ( they look similar to this http://www.kpcomponents.ca/images/35V-Capacitor.jpg) and see if any of them have a crust on them or are popping upward. If you do find any that are popping up or leaking, then you will need to either take the chance and replace them or replace the motherboard as a whole. If you do not find any bad capacitors then remove the memory from the unit and see if it will stay on and give you sounds for more than 5 seconds. If it does not then you have one of two things. The onboard video is damaged or cpu is bad.

Can a partially broken cd be fixed?

Broken as in cracked or pieces missing? No, I wouldn't put it in my computer because it could fly apart and damage the CD Drive.

If you mean that it is seriously scratched up, you could try a CD repair kit. They sell these kits that use special resins to fill in scratches and make the disc readable again. I've heard you can also use toothpaste, but I've never tried it and wouldn't recommend it.

WE HAVE JUST HAD A LIGHTENING STRIKE AND ALL POWER IN THE HOUSE WENT OFF WHILST MY ASPIRE E 700 WAS POWERED AFTER THE POWER CAME BACK POWER LIGHT WAS LIT BUT COMPUTER WONT START UP WITH START SWICH

Unplug everything from the laptop, remove the battery and let it sit for 5 minutes. Replace the battery only, not the power brick and see if it will boot.
Does the power brick have a solid green light? Flashing? Red?
If it will not boot off the battery or power brick it may be fried.

The touch screen on a eeetop et1602c is damaged, and I want to replace it. Where can the film be purchased

I wouldn't recommend going through the Manufacturer, since they tend to have a mark-up of at least 200%. Our website usually purchases from a wholesaler in Vancouver, British Columbia (http://www.laptopscreen.com/?gclid=CJyu6MTbzKgCFQcBbAodWUHWpg). Screens are genuine, no bad pixels, warranty if defective, but not damaged... I can't really say more than that without getting flagged for advertising.
If this doesn't resolve the issue in which you are experiencing, or if you require additional information, simply respond to this page and I will be happy to assist you further.

Hp desktop won't boot

Firstly how on earth did it get hit with lightening? i have several computers in my house none of which have been hit with lightening during a storm.

secondly it sounds like some of the components are damaged i would try the different components in different machines to rule them out if certain components are damaged you will have to replace them.

There is NO WAY to tell everything that has been damaged on your computer without testing. You might replace the power supply only to find your motherboard does not work. You may find your DVD drive works, but not your hard drive. You may find that slot 3 no longer functions but slot 2 works fine.

I have a Gateway laptop computer with XP. It originally had 512mbs of memory. I bought 2gigs of memory and installed it. It worked lightening-fast for about one day. Here is what happened: My wife...

I was initially confused about the addition of the Dell laptop in the plot before realizing what you are saying:

I think its your RAM. Did you ground yourself while removing or replacing the ram to prevent static shock from damaging the device or memory sticks?

If not, try getting another 512 stick (pretty cheap) from best buy for your gateway and testing it out. Save the receipt.

Also, post the model of your gateway laptop as some computers can not handle large amounts of ram. Most will only allow up to 2x the original amount.

Desktop Power Light Pulses

Try removing all PCI/AGP and RAM cards from the motherboard and disconnecting all drives via their power and ribbon cables too and see if you at least get the boot process to start. if not, that confirms your motherboard is bad.

If it does start but gives errors for the missing components, start putting them back in or connecting them back up one at a time until the problem returns and then you have your failed part.
