Recently purchased Garmin Edge 800 and had no problem setting it up with the Garmin hr monitor and speed/cadence sensor. I thought all was well until I rode the bike and realized that the Edge was doubling my road speed and hence miles covered as well. It would occasionally momentarily flash the correct speed but would bounce right back to double where it was 99% of the time. Unit was also pausing momentarily and then immediately resuming. This Edge 800 is new but I have one several years old that I use on another bike and when I tried that older unit on the new bike it did the same thing, doubling speed and mileage and pausing and resuming frequently. Is there anything in the set up process that I missed and that would cause both units to do the same thing? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Suggest you first try changing the battery in the sensor...then reset, then rescan for it on unit. It seems like quite a few have been shipped with dud batteries.

Good luck!

Instructions to reset a nordictrack cardio track watch

You may have started wearing a Polar F11 Fitness heart rate monitor to help you keep track of your pulse during cardiovascular exercise. The monitor consists of a strap with electrodes that you attach to your chest, which transmit heart rate data to a receiver worn on your wrist like a watch. The wrist unit stores data and settings that you can customize, such as your weight, height and target heart rates. However, you may wish to reset the unit and start over with new settings. You can reset your Polar F11 by following a few easy steps.
Instructions:

    • Press any button to activate the Polar F11 Fitness heart monitor unit.
    • 2 Press all buttons on the Polar F11 Fitness heart monitor simultaneously, except the "Light" button. There are five buttons and the "Light" button is at the top left side of the unit. Continue to hold the buttons until the display fills with digits.
    • 3 Press the "OK" button, which is located on the right side of the unit in the middle of the up and down buttons. The Polar F11 Fitness heart monitor will reset.

Its stoped reading the cadence sensor

First check your settings and make sure that cadence is turned on. Then:

#1) check to make sure that your cadence sensor has not moved and is still within 1-2mm of the magnet on the crankarm.

#2) make sure you still have a magnet on the crankarm.

#3) if #1 and #2 are good, does a little red light come on (body of sensor) when the crankarm magnet pass the sensor.

If all these things have been satisfied and you still do not get a reading, then you have a dead battery and you need to replace the sensor.

Will the garmin edge 705 provide/ be able to produce a power watt measure during outdoor rides and what do i need to purchase to be able to get this information?

The 705 comes in multiple versions from basic that will give you heart rate to a team garmin version that has the cadence, speed, calories, etc. As for power meters the 705 is 3rd party compatible to show you watt measurements.
The following third-party ANT+Sport-enabled power meters are compatible with the Edge 705:
    • iBike
    • PowerTap
    • Quark
    • SRM

Garmin 305 Heart Rate Function Gone

I Have had the same problem couple of times (and forgotten each time how I solved it). I figured it out just now and this is what I did.

    1) turn on unit and put on heart monitor (make sure battery is good and wet heart strap)
    2) using the mode button navigate the menus to: Settings: General: Accessories: Heart Rate Monitor
    3) Once in the Heart Rate Monitor option make sure "Yes" is selected and then use the arrow buttons to highlight "Restart Scan" . Press the enter button to rescan for your heart monitor. (I had to rescan twice)
Go back to the main monitor screen to see if you are recieving heart rate signals.

I am not sure why a manual rescan needs to be done every time but it would be nice if Garmin fixed this issues in a unit software update (my unit has software version 2.80)

Distance and average speed don't compute.

My solution included changing the battery in the cadence sensor (GSC10). You might not need to.
    1. After changing battery, take bike outside. Turn on Edge 305 to acquire satellites (might not be necessary..)
    2. Press reset button on GSC10. Should see red/green flash.
    3. On Edge 305, go to SYSTEM.
    4. Scroll down to ACCESSORIES.
    5. On Accessory page, scroll to bottom, under Cadence Sensor, and press RESTART SCAN.
That fixed my Edge 305 - cadence and speed do appear now.
