Question about Sony VAIO VGC-RB42G PC Desktop

PCI slot / TV tuner error

I have the Sony VAIO VGC-RB42 and recently installed the BFG 9800GTX+. This card covers my middle PCI slot so I had to move my TV tuner card to the lower PCI slot. Everything seemed to run fine until I tried to record/ watch TV. The computer doesnt even recognise that the TV tuner card is installed. I have removed and replaced the card several times, I removed the video card and replaced it with the old one, leaving the tuner in the same bottom slot and still nothing works. Is there a reason why the bottom slot will not run the tuner? Is there a workaround?

I am not an expert, but have lots of experience with my own media center. by moving the tuner card you changed the address of it which if the os does not recognize new hardware, it will not install the drivers for it. i believe you will have to use the device manager to reinstall the drivers for the tuner card. also will have to redo the setup for the tuner in media center. another problem with the softare change is you have to update the security components to be able to view certain channels.

you can find the best information for all these subjects at your computer manufacturers support website and of course microsoft for the security components. good luck, it should not be too difficult to solve your delemna with a little research and searching there.

My Sony Vaio VGC-RB40...does it have a PCI-Express slot?

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-VGC-RB40-Desktop-Pentium-Processor/dp/B0009HIVSW

look up your number pc and specs in google i found this,
x16 PCI Express (available), x1 PCI Express (available)

Open the case see if there is eather 1 or 2 yellow bleu or green slots, the long ones with a clip on the back, agp are usualy brown.
If you put a card in remember to clip it and when you remove the card unclip it.
Before you damage the slot.

Good luck!

Sony VGC LT16E VAIO live tv tuner hardware cannot be found

Go to "Device Manager" and look for anything that has a yellow question mark. If you see this, you need to run the set up program for that device to install the driver/.inf file and let the setup program set other parameters.

Since you reformatted, you removed all your previous settings unless you backed those up previously. If it came with the laptop from the store, it should have come with a CD or DVD rom with the install program.

If you lost that, or cannot find it, go to the Sony website, select "support" and locate that driver or set up program and download it. Make an archive copy of it in case it is needed in the future. The device manager should identify what model of tuner card you have.

Can I Upgrade Video Cards on my computer sony VGC-RA840G ?

I can't believe this has never been answered. yes, you can. you have to make sure it is pci, and only uses one slot. I put a EVGA Geforce GT610 in mine. Not superb, but runs what I need it to. An easy installation too. Good luck!

I have lost all my freeview channels on my Sony Vaio VGC-VA1,I have tried numerous times to re scan the channels but with no luck, this happened this week end

After the recent retune that all Freeview customers had to do (which failed miserably) this can happen on TV tuners on your pc's aswell.

Try uninstalling the product, and reinstalling, then rescanning. There is a chance this could work.
