that could be the indicator for "you have voicemail messages waiting" -- It looks like a little tape cassette. Pick up your voicemail and it will go away.
as for the time display on the front screen, check that you have the screen saver enabled - Settings, Mini Display, Screen Saver, Digital Clock (or analog clock if you prefer), then check again to make sure it is set to On.
The only thing you can change is the screen saver for the "mini display" - Settings, Mini Display, Screen Saver, then choose "Digital Clock" - when the screen saver kicks in you'll see the time in nice large numbers.
The mini display is monochrome so you can't change the color.
Main Menu> Settings> Display & light settings> Display> Wallpaper> Choose images (this will just disply a small clock at the top) or choose "Use Theme" (this will let you choose what clock sort you want on your wallpaper (do this by choosing "Use Theme"> Save> My Theme> Select Theme> Chose one of the 3 themes))
DO NOT choose "Living World" as this will display a large clock
it appears that your display has gone bad or there is a display connector problem. If you are tech savvy then open the phone carefully and on proper examination u will find that there is a connector for the display carefully take it off and replace it. Check if it works if not replace the display
