Problem with A85 Digital Camera

When taking pictures, reddish purple horizontal lines appear in window and are apparent when I printed the photos.

Have had camera 2-3 years and have never had a problem before. What is causing this problem?

i appear to have the same probplem. when taking the photo the screen is fine but when the photo is viewed the screen shows very fine pink / purple lines and when printed the photo is pink / purple as well.

its just like when a colour runs out on the printer.

I have this as well, after taking the picture it shows pale colour, washed out and these fine horizontal lines all over, a little colour on some of them. but viewing the picture before taking it is fine - clear, in focus and nice colour this only happens after it is taken and reviewed appears this way when uploaded to computer too. Anyone have a sdolution?

You have a bad CCD. Canon will fix it for free - here's the website link...

Call the 800 number. Originally the A85 wasn't included in the repair recall, but they added it in 2006. I had the same problem. Hope this helps!

PowerShot A85 capture fault

Yup, it is a common problem. The shutter is jammed. I bet outside pictures are really overexposed. The horizontal lines are caused by the electronic noise created by the shutter solenoid trying to move the shutter. If the cameraq is no longer under warranty- Sometimes, you can free up the shutter by banging the camera in a hard surface like a desk or table. (Do this carefully, don't get carried away) If this doesn't work, you will need to replace the whole lens unit. this is best if the warranty is still good.
