I have an HP Photosmart A646 printer that I bought in the hopes of printing to 5x7 card stock. We have pre-printed card stock that we use for gift certificates and we need to be able to feed the card stock...

Thanks for visiting FixYa!

Depending on the program you are using to print your gift certificates, try this-

1) Open the program and open the file you use for your gift certificate.
2) Click on 'Layout' then 'Page Set Up' (probably found in the top menu bar by the right side of, FILE.)
3) Select 'Landscape' and then select, 'Custom'.
4) Enter 5x7 for height and width.
5) Enter the information you need in the data field, (ie, name address, etc.)
6) Select, Print.
7) When the 'Print Manager' box opens, click on, 'Properties'.
8) Click on, 'Type' and choose, "Envelope'.
9) Click on, 'Size' and choose 5x7. - and click, OK.

Your printer should have a slide where the paper is inserted. Place one of the 5x7 cards in the slot just as you would an envelope and slide the slider until it is 'close' to the card but not directly against the card.

Click, 'Print'. The printer should recognize the card (due to its thickness) as an envelope and print it.

I cleared a paper jam from an HP Deskjet 6122, but now it won't respond to commands from the computer. I've restarted the printer and the computer. Now the print manager just says it's...

First things frist. If the printer is conected with a USB Cable to your computer, try removing and reinserting the usb cable. To make sure that it is properly connected.
You might just have unintentionally got the printer in offline mode. Now follow this steps:
To check if it is offline. 1. Go to devices and printers (7), Printers and Faxes(XP), Printers (Vista) 2. Double click on the printer icon 3. Click the option that says Printer on the upper left corner of the window that pops up.
Th only options that you need checked is the one that says Set as Default Printer. For any other options that has a check mark. Click on them to remove the check mark.
4. Click Start again, on the search box type in services.msc, hit Enter. For XP, CLick Run, and type the same thing and then hit ok. 5. A window should pop up with the list of services for your computer. Look for Print Spooler in that list. 6. Right Click on the Print Spooler and Click Stop. 7. Right Click on the Print Spooler and Click Start.
Restart your computer. Try printing again.

7. Step 7 Return any access panels to their closed and locked positions. Plug your printer back in and flip the power switch.

I have only used my printer 7 times and now no matter what i do it pulls the paper in crooked and bent

  • Step 1 Inspect the paper trays to make sure they are not overloaded. To determine if this is the problem, do a test print with only one piece of paper loaded in the paper tray. (If this turns out to be the problem, keep the paper tray half-full in the future.)
  • Step 2 Check that the type of paper being used falls within the printer manufacturer's recommendations. For example, paper designed for ink-jet printers doesn't necessarily work well in laser printers. High-quality, bonded paper will cause paper jams in some printers; look for bonded paper that is "laser and ink-jet compatible."
  • Step 3 If someone has recently printed labels on this printer, check to see if a label has come unglued from a sheet and become stuck inside the printer.
  • Step 4 Check the gears and rollers for stuck shreds of torn paper from previous jams. Turn off the printer before you attempt to remove the bits of paper.
  • Step 5 If you have a laser printer, inspect the printer's paper rollers. They should be smooth but not shiny. Rollers that are cracked or glazed are a frequent cause of paper jams and should be replaced by a technician.
  • Step 6 If you have a laser printer, try cleaning the printer's paper rollers with a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol (available at electronics shops or drugstores).
  • Step 7 Try changing the toner or ink cartridge.
  • Step 8 If you hear a clinking sound during printing, your printer probably has a broken gear and needs to be serviced by a technician.

Cannon i 860 can't get the cyan to print - have run cleaning operation several times deep cleaning @ least twive & checked ink tank visually put new ink tank in put a Q tip to the head there is ink -...

Then try this, it works for me!!!
Canon will hate me for this.

1. Remove ink cartridges.
2. Remove print head.
3. Go to sink or tub (stainless steel, not plastic type), pick up a roll of paper towel on the way.
4. Fold several layers of paper towel and place on flat surface.
5. Run hot water until HOT!
6. Turn hot water back to a dribble.
7. Run the dribbling hot water through print head being careful not to wet the gold contacts.
8.When water running through print head is clear, place print head on paper towel.
9. Repeat number 7 and 8 until no colour shows on paper towel.
10. Gently DAB print head (DO NOT WIPE) inside and out with dry paper towel until dry.
11. I normally replace print head after drying, but you may wish to let it air-dry overnight.
12. Replace print head in printer and install cartridges
13. Start printing.

I do this to all 4 of my Canon printers every 6 months or so.

If any colour fails to print after this process it means your print head probably needs replacing.
