Question about Belkin (F5D5231V4-SN-PD) Router (F5D5231V4SNPD)

1 Answer

Belkin 4-Port Router

We just bought this router. The model # is F5D5231-4. I tried looking through your site for help, but the Belkin router with this same model number is NOT the one I have.
Anyways, the guy at Radioshack said that a Linksys wireless USB adapter would be compatible with the Belkin router. Strangely, or perhaps not so strangely, the computer with the USB is not detecting any wireless connection. I'm thinking that it has to do with the different frequencies. The Linksys USB frequencieas are IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b
The Belkin router frequencies are IEEE 802.3 10Base-T Ethernet, IEEE 802.3u 100Base-T Fast Ethernet, IEEE 802.3x Flow Control, & ANSI/IEEE 802.3 NWay auto-negotiation.

I do have Ethernet, just so you know. What would you suggest I do?

This is because that router is a wired router not a wireless router

How do i change my ip?

You can find the manual for your router here:
http://www.retrevo.com/support/Belkin-F5D5231-4-Routers-manual/id/557ci672/t/2/
You may want to look from page 18 onward, as this explains how to configure the router from the web interface.
Just remember that if you change the IP address of the router you will also need to adjust the DHCP range that the router gives to your PC (page 34).

Hope that this helps!!

Hi i got your issue

Yes, it will not connect in your wireless notebook as this particular model of belkin router is a "wired router" it does not transmit any wirelless signal ......

If you want wireless connection you can look for the new model of routers from BELKIN

Lack cd for router 802.11b model F5D6231-4

you shouldn't need a CD for the router to work. The CD isn't a driver CD it is a CD to make connecting the router eaiser but it isn't necessary to use the CD to make the router work. This URL should help you set up this router:

If you need this for the router setup, here is a link
http://www.belkin.com/support/download.asp?download=F5D5231-4

As far as I can see, the top link 'Need help setting up your router?' points to a downloadable setup guide with incorporated setup software. There's also a user manual on this page.
Hope this helps you.

Belkin F5D5231-4 - create a wireless access point

I have had good luck with the NetGear Rangemax WPN824. It has multiple antennas that are supposed to provide better range, and your kids will like the blue blinking lights.
http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/RangeMaxWirelessRoutersandGateways.aspx

Nintendo has a list of incompatible wireless routers:
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/onlineWirelessRouterIncompatible.jsp

and the Rangemax is not incompatible.

Wii can use 802.11B or G.
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/onlineWirelessRouterChoose.jsp

Since the Rangemax is both a wireless access point and a router (with 4 ethernet ports), you can just replace your existing router rather than plugging this router into your other one.
