Question about D-Link AirPlus DI-524 Wireless Router

1 Answer

Wireless Security After I enter all of the security information (WEP and password info) I click on save settings.  The window pops up saying that the device is restarting and the router properly restarts.  The problem is that this screen ''the devise is restarting' never changes, and when I hit the continue button the information goes back to the default information without and security on the router.   How can I fix this so that I can implement the changes that I typed in? Thank you for any help you can give..

Are you using a hardwired computer while changing the settings of the router? if not, use a hardwired computer to properly save any settings on the router since with wireless conenction, it may experience interference during the process of saving the information that's why it's not going through. if so, there could be a problem with the hardware itself that's why it's not taking the settings. try to reset the router first and reconfigure all your settings and check if it'll save everything. if not, you may need to upgrade the firmware of your router. click here to download the firmware.

hope this'll help you

How to set a password?

  • Access the router's default configuration address through your Web browser by entering this address: http://192.168.1.1 (see Resources). Do not enter a user name. Enter "admin" for the password. That process works for all new Linksys routers. If you have changed the user name or password in the past, use the user name and password that you created.

  • 2

When the configuration screen opens, click on the "Wireless" tab and select "Wireless Security" to view the router's current security password. The "Security Mode" field will say "Disabled" if you do not have a password to secure your network.

  • 3

Select the appropriate encryption type from the "Security Mode" drop-down menu. Linksys routers offer WEP and WPA encryption. WPA encryption allows you to use a single password to access the network. WEP encryption creates 10- or 26-character keys that act as your password. Some of your wireless devices may only utilize a certain type of encryption. Determine which protocol is best for your network.

  • 4

Enter a password that will be required to access the network. For WPA encryption, you can write your own password. For WEP encryption, click the "Generate" button to create passwords that can be used to access the network. Write down your passwords and keep them in a secure location.

  • 5

Click "Save Settings" to confirm your changes. Your network will now be secured and will require a password for access.

  • 6

Click the "Administration" tab to create a password to access the router configuration page itself. Be sure to change the password from the default "admin." Reenter the password for confirmation in the next field. Click "Save Settings" to confirm your new password.

HOW DO I SET SECURITY ON ROUTER

Open a browser window and go to 192.168.1.1. At the user/password screen, leave the user blank and enter admin as the password. (This is assuming you've never changed the settings of the router). On the router webpage, click on the word Wireless at the top of the page and then click on the word Wireless Security under that. Change the security mode to WEP and select 128 bits in the drop down beside WEP Encryption. Now enter a passphrase in the passphrase box and click generate. The key 1 is what you'll need to enter into the wireless devices when prompted for a access key. Now, you want to change the default password to get into the router so someone cannot easily come and change your settings on you. Before you leave the Wireless Security page, be sure to click save settings. Once you are able to get back into the web page, click on administration at the top of the page and change the password for the router and click save settings. Your router is now set up for security. Be sure to keep the key, passwords, etc. in a safe place.

Where do I find my WEP key

To access the web-based utility, launch the web browser on
your computer (INTERNET EXPLORER), and enter the Router’s default IP address, 192.168.1.1, in the Address field/bar. Then, press Enter. A password request screen will appear. Leave the User name field blank then default password admin. (You can set a new password from the Administration tab’s Management screen.) Click OK to continue.
The Internet Setup section configures the Router to your Internet connection. Most of this information can be obtained through your ISP/ your internet provider. Internet Connection Type Select the type of Internet connection your ISP provides from the drop-down menu. By default, the Router’s Internet Connection Type is set to Automatic Configuration - DHCP, which should be kept only if your ISP supports DHCP or you are connecting through a dynamic IP address. 68be046.jpg IMPORTANT: If you are using WEP encryption, always remember that each device in your wireless network MUST use the same WEP your wireless network will not function properly.
WEP Encryption Select a level of WEP encryption, 64 bits
10 hex digits or 128 bits 26 hex digits. The default is
    64 bits 10 hex digits.
Passphrase Enter a Passphrase to automatically generate WEP keys. Then click Generate.
Key 1-4 If you did not enter a Passphrase, enter the WEP key(s) manually.

Does not save wireless security settings

Encrypting the network blocks any unauthorized computer from accessing the network and using its broadband connection. To enable WEP on the router,

    1. Open your default browser and enter the following IP address into the address bar: <http://192.168.1.1>
    2. When prompted for a username and password type “admin” on password, unless you have previously changed the password of the router, and hit OK. This will bring you to the Setup page of the router.
    3. Depending on the firmware of the router. Click on the WEP Key Settings button. Or you can click the Wireless tab and select Wireless Security. Or you can click the Security Tab and select Wireless.
    4. From the WEP/Security Settings window, you may enable 64 or 128 bit WEP then enter your Password on the Passphrase field and click on Generate. Make sure to copy the characters on Key 1-4 on a piece of paper before you hit APPLY. You will be needing this once you enable WEP on the wireless PC’s. Also take note that if you enable 64 or 128 bit on the router, this should be the same WEP level that you will enable on the wireless cards.

To put in the network key in your wireless adapter follow the steps below:

WEP Encryption XP's Wireless Zero Configuration ( Advisable for XP PC's )

    1. Go to start>Control Panel>Network Connections>Right click on the Wireless connection then click on Properties>Click on the Wireless Networks Tab
    2. From the Wireless Network Connection properties window, under the Preferred network click on Add then type your SSID on the SSID field and check the box for Data Encryption then then uncheck “The Key is provided for me Automatically”
    3. Type your WEP Keys on both the Network Key and Confirm Network Key field. (This set of characters should be identical to the WEP Keys Settings on the router. For 64-bit WEP you should have 10 characters, for 128-bit you should type in 26 characters.) Then hit OK and then OK again.
    4. After hitting OK a pop-up should appear on the lower right hand side saying “Connected”. Try pointing your mouse arrow on the lower double monitor icon.
    5. Restart your PC

WEP Encryption using the Linksys WLAN Utility ( 98/Me/2000 )

Make sure that the WLAN utility of the Linksys adapter is already is installed. If not, you may follow follow the procedures below for "Installing the Linksys WLAN Utility"

    1. Click on Start then Programs, then click on anything that says something about the Linksys Wireless Adapter. On the menu, select either WLAN Utility or Wireless Configuration Utility
    2. On the lower right-hand side of your screen, double click on the Linksys Icon. This will bring up the WLAN Configuration Utility.
    3. Click on the Profiles Tab. Make sure that the SSID that is set to default is your routers SSID. Highlight Default then hit Edit.
    4. Select Profile Wizard. Continue to click the Next button, until you get to the Security Settings Window.

OR select Expert Mode then Next. Then click on Security Settings
    5. Set the same WEP level that you have enabled on the router. ( ex. 64 or 128 )
    6. Type your WEP Keys. This set of characters should be identical to the WEP Keys Settings on the router. For 64-bit WEP you should have 10 characters, for 128-bit you should type in 26 characters.
