Blank Computer Shuts Down For No Reason

the old hard disk died a month ago and you got a new new one now rt? that means you were not using your computer for one month. So there is a chance of processor heat sink paste worned out and processor is getting hot. So you need to remove the heat sink and apply new heat sink paste and re-fix processor, re-fix ram sticks also.. make sure processor fan is working well.

if its still having problem, you need to check the SMPS...

Another reason, you need check to the compatibility of mother board with hard disk. That means, you need to check how much size of hard disk your motherboard will support?

HD not recognized and makes 3 times beep...beep noise when conect

Sounds like the drive has gone south.
This is a bit of work, but if you have access to a Linux disc, load the Live CD and see if you can mount the drive from there.
This is not quick a quick solution but may be far cheaper than sending off to a recovery expert.
If you are not familiar with Linux, go to www.ubuntu.com and download the latest distro, V9.04. Download, burn a copy and boot from it. Be prepared to spend time doing this, but it may just save your valuable data.
I have many times been able to salvage data just by doing this, if Ubuntu sees the drive, you could copy the data to your C drive and reboot.
Best of luck!

any laptop Hdd will work as long as you know whether it is SATA or IDE.
The casing around the Hard drive will be different, but can easily be put onto the new drive, but be careful of static and dont drop it

My Maxtor 3200 died also. I took the following steps to get it running again.
(1) Remove plastic box from around unit. Carefully stick a screwdrive in the case division and pry it apart. It is not easy, but do will finally come apart.
(2) inside you will find a perforated metal box. There are two screw on each side of the box. Remove and separate the two halves.
(3) there you will discover that inside is just an ordinary Maxtor hard drive like you would buy in the electronics store. Attached to the HD is a PC board. There are 3 screws holding the PC board down. Remove the screws and carefully remove the HD and PC board.
(4) unplug the powere plug and the IDE interface from the HD. Now you have a HD that you can install in your own case (as long as you have a desktop unit and not a laptop).
(5) I installed the HD in an empty slot, connected the IDE cable that was already there (between the CD and IDE interface), plugged in the power plug, fired 'er up, and voila, works like a champ.

I suspect that the problem is in the interface (PC board), since the only thing I did was remove that from the equation. Hope this helps

Kudos! Thanks!

File Missing or Corrupt system32\hal.dll

Ok, that means the file boot.ini is not pointing at the right partition to boot. Make sure that in the boot.ini, in parentheses is the correct number, which is always one below the actual number!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, partition number one has the number 0 for Windows.

If you can't boot from that disk, maybe you can put it in a computer, as a slave disk. I had the same problem because I installed Linux in another partition and Windows didn't like it.

Trying to boot from a hd from my old comp

Hi,

MS Windows XP when installed to an HD will "marry" itself to the hardware of the original computer specifically the motherboard. Transplanting the HD to another PC with a different motherboard will result in a cycling blue screen of death or protective message requiring that you reboot. Running in Safe Mode will not also be allowed.

You need to re-install your OS (boot from CD) but choose the 2nd repair option rather than a new/clean install or the first repair option if you want to preserve your other applications as well as your settings/configuration. Doing this will allow the OS to install the new device drivers and delete the old ones.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

God luck and kind regards.
