Question about Mitsubishi VS-50703 50" Rear Projection Television

Open Question

Horizontal fine lines top and bottom. Text has blue shadows.

The TV has always gotten great picture. Majority of the time there are 5 to 6 horizontal small yellow lines at the top and bottom. There also is blue shadows around text when on the screen. There has been occasion where the TV would suddenly lose most of it's color or be t 3 to 4 large bars horiz. across the screen. This last for 1- 15 seconds and then goes back. The lines can even seem to go and come, depending on what is being televised. Fottbal game for instance may be great on close up and the terrible on more distant shots. I was looking forward upgrading, but was open not for another 6 months.

SOURCE: lines top and bottom of screen

I don´t think so. You have a technical problem. Is your cable operator working ok?

Samsung TSL2793HF - Slight Right Side Pincushion and Horz Line Bottom to Top Until the TV Warms up

Yes, this is rare but I have seen it before--not fixable if it is what I think it is----It is what is called a Dome effect---the shadow mask in the picture tube is actually contracting and or expanding depending on temperature---

Directly behind the phosphor coating (the stripes that you see on the screen) is a metal screen--the holes or perforations in it line up with the stripes on the phosphor screen.

Some masks either have a material or a defect causing the dome effect----Not likely to be anything else---a Pin amp problem will not usually act the way you describe but a shadow mask inside the picture tube will act exactly that way.

Horizontal lines shadowed / blured picture after 20-30 minutes

There are some semiconductors or capacitors that are leaky. Might need thorough check up inside the TV.

Verticle lines appearing near top. Reminiscent of more extensive problem a few years ago that repair man said were related to electronic equipment used nearby such as vacuum cleaner. He fixed it with...

Case 1:
If the horizontal lines are red, green or blue or white, and are slanted about 15 degrees up going left to right, they are "vertical retrace" lines. These are caused by the beam current in the offending gun being left on while the vertical deflection is retracing from the bottom to the top on its way to start drawing the next frame. The usual cause is the CRT screen setting being too high (too bright), but (rarely) it could be something wrong with the vertical blanking circuit. Since it is dependent on vertical position, I would check the power supplies feeding the vertical deflection circuit and the CRT bias voltages, especially if they share the same filter capacitor.

Case 2:
If the lines are true horizontal, and colored similarly to the picture (sometimes alternately white and colored the same as program material), the top of picture is folded over itself because of over-voltage distortion ("clipping") in the vertical drive. In this case, reducing the height of the picture also reduces the fraction of the picture with the lines, and may eliminate it. If you are unable to get a full-height picture without the lines, then you should check the vertical deflection circuit for leaky capacitors (also check the power supply voltage going to it).

Case 3:
Several times I've observed bright white lines with random interruptions at the top of a picture supplied by the local cable company. These often occur on one or a few channels for a time (once or twice I've seen it on all channels), and go away after a while. This is a glitch in the cable service.

Case 4
You have a zone of weird colors at the top of the screen. This is probably caused by magnetization of the shadow mask inside the front of the picture tube that is not being erased when the TV is first turned on. Check to see if somebody left a magnetized object on top of or above the TV (look behind the set also). If you find something remove it, turn off the TV, wait a few minutes, then turn it on again. (Explanation: the TV has an internal demagnetizing coil that operates only when you first turn it on. It uses a self-heating temperature-dependent part to gradually reduce the alternating current going through it to override and "fade out" any stray magnetism in the shadow mask.) If the internal demagnetizing (AKA degaussing) coil isn't strong enough, you'll need that "ghostbuster" gadget again. If you don't find an external magnetic source, the internal coil may have slipped out of place at the top of the picture tube and is too far away from the shadow mask, or something is wrong with the degaussing circuit.

If none of these cases match what you see, try a more detailed description of the lines and I'll give it another shot.

Mitsubishi TV Model #WS65903 - Green Shadow Lines on Screen

Something is not right here--The green is adjustable in the TECH menu--did this person adjust or try to adjust in the customer or the TECH menu?

If you confirm actual model number I can tell you how to get into the TECH menu--yes--green will not adjust in customer menu--it determines geometry and is only adjusted in the TECH menu.

Also, this set requires any convergence adjustments to be done in 480 and then in 1080--if only adjusted in one mode the other will still be bad.

Let me know if you know how to adjust in TECH menu or not--with exact model number I can tell you how to get there.

If this helps you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

We had a blue cone on the screen. We have adjusted the sharpness, contrast, and cross hairs. The cone has almost completely disappeared, but we still have blue shadows. Could this mean a blown color tube?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

PICTURE NOT SQUARE

Most times when that models Convergence ICs blow they take out at least one of the resistors on the board right next to the ICs. They are easy to spot there are about 7 of them they have no color bands and they are all identical either light blue or light green. Look at those resistors you will no doubt find at least one maybe two that are open. they are rated at 2.2 ohm 2 watt and at 5% tolerance this is marked with a J on the resistor. Let me know if you need any additional help.
