Question about Washing Machines
Two Sears reps out. One said it was CCU (8183257) and to order and install myself. Second guy said it was the MCU (8183196). Second guy did not have a functioning multi-meter to confirm.
Both parts really expensive. What websites do you recommend purchasing from. How to confirm which part it is?
First of all, you are the man when it comes to this stuff. Thank you very much!
My wife had already ordered a CCU, so I replaced it. -- Did not solve the problem.
I reseated the wiring harness -- no dice.
I have had the system unplugged for days at a time -- no go.
Would you guess it is A) the Harness, B) a bad replacement CCU - 8183257, or C) the Motor Control (another $245) ?
I basically understand checking the voltage and ohms, but would be afraid of frying something (or myself) in the process.
Not sure where you are located. Do you know of a reputable repair shop in DC-Metro? Sears guys are random, and a complete mistake.
Thanks in advance!

Although it is true that an "F11" error code indicates a problem with between the CCU and MCU. The majority of the cases turn out to be a problem with the CCU or the wiring harness. A failed MCU is generally indicated by an error code of "F06". The following link explains your error code and basic tips on troubleshooting:
I would like to know how your 2nd tech was able to "determine" the cause without a multimeter. The cheapest I was able to find both the parts you mention was repairclinic.com. The prices are still relatively high, but you will save - some. I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you still have questions or concerns.
PS Sometimes these washers will experience momentary glitches which requires a reset of the CCU. The manufacturer recommends unplugging the appliance for at least 30 minutes to do a reset. If you haven't thought of this already, you may give it a try to see if this clears your problem. It could save you from an expensive repair...just a thought.

Tips for a great answer:

The "F11" fault code will display if the Motor Control Unit (MCU) has an internal failure; repeating under or over voltage, or over current conditions. If failure occurs during high speed spin the door unlocks after 3 minutes. The MCU (Motor Control Unit) is located beside the motor. See images below. Key #13 is the CCU and key #1 is the MCU.
The CCU (Central Control Unit) is located under the top along the side panel.
I recommend checking for loose wire connections at the MCU, CCU and motor. If you do not get any motor action at all, the MCU has likely failed.NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before removing the top and lower access panel. I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your washer.
Parts can be looked up and ordered at Sears PartsDirect
If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website:Sears Home Services .
