It's most likely the locking switch on the edge of the memory card. Secure Digital cards have a locking mechanism on the side of the card to prevent accidental erasing of the data (that's the "secure" part of secure digital). Just slide the switch away from the locked position and try it in the camera again.

Memory card when insert camera show card locked. can I delet the switch for card lock?

Look at the memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

Says memory card locked-it is not -the card works fine in other camers

What type of memory card are you using? If you have an SDHC (high capacity SD) card, it will not work with this model. This model came out before the SDHC protocol was developed. You can use an SD card, maximum 2GB, or MMC card.

How to format an SD card on a Canon SD600 camera when the menu says "memory card locked." The memory card is in the unlocked position. When we put the SD card in another Canon camera (SD780 IS), it works...

Could be that you have the wrong memory card.
SD600 will only work with the old SD cards, but the SD780 will take the SDHC cards.
SDHC was intended to give 4gb or more of storage, while the old SD started as 16 mb.  Different cameras have different limits, but it is always best to assume that the practical limit on an SD card is 2mb.  Even if the SD780 will take the SDHC cards, it can be more practical to only carry 2GB SD cards and know that they will fit either camera

In ixus 750 it shows memory card error with all memorry cards

First of all, make sure that you are using a standard SD card2.gif (2GB or less) and NOT an SDHC card (4GB or more). Though an SDHC card looks exactly the same as an SD card, it is not. As your camera came out before the SDHC format, there is no way to make an SDHC card work with your camera. If your card is SDHC, just hang onto it. Someday you'll have a newer camera capable of using it.

But if your card already is standard SD, see this link for additional things that you can try.

Canon PowerShot SD 630 Digital Elph "Memory Card Error"

Hi,
I'm sorry to tell that PowerShot SD 630 does not support SDHC cards over 2 gig.
If you want the camera to take a card over 2 gig then you are stuck standard SD cards.
The other camera does support the card because it's a higher model.

Regards.

I assume that you know that there is a tiny tiny on-off switch on the edge of each SD card. If they are locked in the off position....

Have a powershot sd550

Hello

If the card works in another camera or another card doesn't work in your camera , the problem is with your card reader in your camera.

If you open you sd slot and look inside with a sharp light , you should be able to see on the left side of the slot there is a little copper or spring steel lever switch. This switch work as follows:

1. When no card is inserted / no write protection , the switch is open and thus the protection is off.
2. When locked card is inserted , the tab is depressed and tells the camera that the card is lock.

Contrary to popular belief ,the little tab on the sd card is not an electronic switch and does not physically influence the card operation itself. If you put a locked card into a camera without a sd lock switch , you would still be able to use the card normally.

It is incredible difficult to fix this switch because of space limitations in the sd card. Look into the sd slot and if you can see the switch , use a needle to pull the little tab down toward the base of the camera by about 2mm or until it works being careful not to bend it.

If this does not resolve your problem , there might be a short in the switch circuit and the camera will need to be disassembled to resolve this error. This should cost no more than $50.

Please feel free to contact me if you need further information

Kind regards
Andrea
