HP ipaq rx4240 frozen at the blue start up screen

The hard reset does not help and the computer recognizes it but the HD software does not. I've attempted all the troubleshooting on the HP web site and on my computer. No luck!

A "cold solder" is beyond my expertise. I need a practical solution. Thanks anyway

  • whitfiep Oct 06, 2008

It doesn't have any error messages and it does say Formatting PS at the bottom when I hard reset it just like it usually does. It will also give the message Boot 1.00.02 and USB high or full at times when I hard reset it. However it will not move on and load. Prior to this occurring originally I had replaced my battery. Nothing else different though and it had been working. I just hit the power button like usual one day and it didn't complete the load. It's been frozen ever since. Thanks

Sorry. I'm attempting to do four things at once. I have both Windows XP and Vista and have tried it on both systems using active sync and Windows Mobile. No luck with either one. Troubleshooting tells me there is no problem with the device when I go to the control panel and the usb port. The computer lists it as a HP USB sync device. Hope that helps.

I still can't get it to do anything. Help anyone?

  • whitfiep Oct 06, 2008

What sort of device hardware problem would cause this? It was working fine. Can it just suddenly go haywire and could it have been caused by something I did when I changed the battery? Thanks

  • whitfiep Oct 06, 2008

OK I did another hard reset and made sure to hold the buttons down. The blue line progresses to the end of the bar and stops and it says Formatting PS at the bottom. Nothing else. Do you think it will be an expensive fix if I send it in? This thing was not cheap when I bought it and I wonder if it is worth it. Thanks

Does anyone have any more information?

  • whitfiep Oct 07, 2008

Actually I did install a Zune program also around the time it quit working. I'll give that a try. Thanks

  • whitfiep Oct 07, 2008

I agree with your solution. I've tried everything without success. I think I'll just junk it and try a new one. I have afriend who wants to give me a H5455 but it has a problem with the touchscreen. I think i will start over with a new one. Thanks

You will most likely have to send this to HP for repair, or possibly fixable by updateing the internal firmware.

Did you install any program on your computer lately?
If your computer recognize the device but your HP program not, seem to be a sotware conflict.
Clean your computer, Uninstall and reinstall the HP software again and be sure you are doing the hard reset correctly in your unit.

Hi,

The only home remedy to fix this problem is a hard reset:
press OK and Rotate Screen buttons together, press reset button with the stylo. Also make sure you are holding the keys down long enough. If you still have the same problem then you will have to get this repaired as the fault is with your device hardware, not a software problem.

Goodluck..

its the fault in the hardware of the device which you r using.take it to the chip level repair center and get it repaired as they will check the board of your device.the bios setting in your device.and if necessary they will do a cold soldering.

A factory reset erases all user-installed settings, programs, and data, and restores your HP iPAQ to factory settings.
CAUTION All user-installed settings, programs, and data are erased from memory with a factory reset.
To perform a factory reset and return your HP iPAQ to factory settings:
  1. Press and hold the OK and Rotate Screen buttons.
  2. While holding these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button on the HP iPAQ until the device restarts.
  3. When the HP iPAQ restarts, release all of the buttons, and then remove the stylus from the Reset button.
The HP iPAQ will now restart and power on.

If you have done the above and still no go. Then your main drive has probably failed.

Frozen screen

hello :-) i just talked to another person who was having the same problem as you. And guess what?? the same problem happened to me on my IPAQ 4350. It turned out when I would hard reset my IPAQ it asked me to align the screen but it wouldn't move and it would freeze and not let me pass . But I later found out that my screen was damaged and I got a new touch screen installed and my IPAQ works perfect :-). I would recommend for you to do the same and call HP and see if they could install it for you. Thanks :-}

Doesn't start up

Hi, Based on your post/description, your iPaq 2210 will not power on. It is possible that your battery is deactivated. To reactivate, plug it to the AC power supply/adaptor, press reset at the back of the unit. Assuming no other problem, the unit will initialize back to default factory settings. It's very likely that all your previous/personal settings, files and applications will be also gone. Good luck and pls post back how things turn up. Kind regards.
