Question about Abit KV-80 Motherboard

1 Answer

HDD both IDE or SATA 1 are not recognized

I am having a problem with the HDD being recognized and a brand new KV-80
. HDD#1(brand new Western Digital) connected to IDE and was working fine. Installed WinXP Home w/SP3. Customer took it home and then called me to tell me that when they booted it up, they received the error disk not found. They brought it back and they were right and wrong. I got it to boot but then while playing a card game the system shut down. When I try to reboot it, I recieve disk not found. BIOS does not show a HDD

Things I've done.

Replaced PSU (no change)
Put the HDD#1 as a slave on another computer and it was recognized.
Connected a SATA HDD and it is not recognized.

Any and All help will be appreciated.

The suggestion of replacing the HDD produced the same results. I have following the other suggestion and then the last resort of replacing the HDD with a new HDD. The results are the same. DISK BOOT FAILURE, IINSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. The BIOS is not recognizing the HDD either. I have re-set the CMOS, re-seated the Memory, re-seated the Battery.

Any other ideas or is this a Motherboard Problem and I need to replace it?

Unplugg the disk from motherboard and reboot your computer
Shut off the computer, connect the drive again and start up again.

If the problem continue, set the drive on your bios manually.

If after that the problem continue replace the disk.

I'm trying to install a Western Digital Serial ATA Hard Drive into the external hard drive enclosure. There are no instructions as to what cables need to be attached and to where

USB external hard drive cases are supplied with SATA and power connectors attached to the circuit board in the case. If you canot connect it to the SATA hard drive then you may have the wrong drive case, your case may be a IDE or SCSI type.

I keep getting an error message that states the drive is not recognized. I installed a PETA enhanced IDE drive Western Digital Scorpio 5400rpm 8MB, OEM

Have you tried it on another PC? Check the jumper settings, cables, etc.. Try this youtube video and see if it can help: http://bit.ly/fixHDD
If the HDD is brand new, some Motherboards need to be update (BIOS) firmware to recognize the HDD.
What kind of PC do you have? model, etc..

You might need to change your bios settings from ide to sata. Have you already checked the bios settings? If everything is in order you might have a bad board. What have you tried so far?

Just looked at the details that are stored on fixya, I see the laptop would have a SATA connector, so the new one is IDE? you will have to get a SATA drive and it should fit. well compair the original to the new one, the one with flat connectors fits?

Switching from 40GB IDE HDD to 500GB SATA HDD. SATA won't boot.

Hi there
No there is no need to change any jumpers on a sata drive, go into the bios settings and tell the bios to boot from the western digital drive only.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!!

any laptop Hdd will work as long as you know whether it is SATA or IDE.
The casing around the Hard drive will be different, but can easily be put onto the new drive, but be careful of static and dont drop it

K8V-MX motherboard+HDD size limit

yes the mother board supports SATA However if you connect large Disks to the SATA connectors they are recognized correctly with full size. So leave your 500g and less HDs on the IDE and the big ones on the SATA. you can check this link for the manual for more information ftp://ftp.chiligreen.com/Desktop/Manuals/manual_a_k8v-mx.pdf hope this helps .thanks and Godbless pls appreciate by rating as fixyaa
