Question about Sharp AL-1642CS Copier

Toner everywhere I have toner all over the inside of the machine and under the machine. The drum and toner cartridge was changed about 2 months ago and we do not make a lot of copies in our office. Maybe 200 to 300 a month. No indicator lights on. what would cause this? And what can I do to fix the problem. Appreciate any help you can give me.

    I have had the toner cartidge out several times to see what the problem is. I am not sure if the angle tube was connected or not. I am trying to get a small vaccum to clean up the toner. Once I get it cleaned, I will keep an eye on it. Hopefully that is what the problem is. What you are saying makes since and I am sure that is what the problem is. Thanks for your help.

Open the front lid. On the outside of the drum casing you will see and angled tube. That angled tube should connect to the toner cartridge. If it does not, that is where the spill is coming from. It should be cleaned up and reseated.

1. Verify you installed a NEW, out of the box, genuine Brother toner cartridge (TN360/TN330).

If a toner cartridge from another machine was installed (even if there?s still toner left in the used cartridge) or a starter toner cartridge (included with the purchase of a machine) was installed, the Toner LED will stay on and the message "Toner Life End" would continue to appear on the display.

2. Verify the toner cartridge is installed correctly by following the steps listed below:

a. Open the front cover by pulling the tabs on the left and right side of the printer towards you.

b. Lift the drum unit slightly and pull it out. Place the drum unit on a piece of disposable paper or cloth to avoid spilling and scattering the toner.

c. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum by holding down the lock lever (blue tab) on the left side of the drum unit and lift the toner out. Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wash it off with cold water.

d. Gently rock the toner cartridge from side to side five or six times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.

e. Place the toner cartridge into the drum (be sure it clicks into place).

f. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab on the top of the cartridge from right to left several times. Return the blue tab to the home position before reinstalling the drum unit assembly.

g. Reseat the drum unit into the printer pressing it in securely.

h. Close the front cover making sure it latches on both sides.

If the Toner LED is still on or the status monitor continues to display the message "Toner Life End" the printer will need service.

The printer has a one year limited exchange warranty. If the printer is in warranty, call Brother Customer Service at 1-877-Brother (1-877-276-8437) for warranty options.

I changed the drum unit on my c5500 printer and didn't realize that I needed to replace the toner at the same time. I just replaced that toner about a month ago and now it's saying it's empty - which I...


Before you replace a drum unit, you should (with the top toner cartridge still in place) turn the unit upside down and gently shake the toner that is in the drum unit back into the toner cartridge. When you install toner on these printers, most of the toner falls into the drum unit. The only way you can "reset" the printer is to add more toner, because there is almost no toner in that new drum.

1) if you are refilling the toner cartridge, it may be the blade and roller need to be replaced.
2) if you are using a high yield cartridge, the drum unit will need to be replaced every 2 1/2 cartridges.
The yield for the drum unit is every 20K pages. The drum unit may also be remanufactured.

Bad photo quality after changing drum


your laser printer
1) print color quality is now distorted that means print skew (technician called)
2) print tint means the print color not enough density,
3) print mottle means print dirty
you may try
1) print distorted--- find out the skew adjustment from your printer manu, it is adjust the image before transfer to the drum.
2) print skew could be happened when the drum replace install not very accurate, so install it more carefully.
3) print tint---you may increase print density from the manu, not fix,
4) print tint---the toner caridge near life cycle or using the less compatible toner. so you have change the quality toner or cartridge (if near life cycle) to improve quality photo print
5)print mottle---toner quality ? or cartridge near life cycle also cause print dirty paper,

Change of toner


I have a brother mfc 7840w

I first used the electrical tape trick and that worked for a while. Then got the toner low message again. I then tried the *00 trick, which works as follows:

1. lift lid and open front cover
2. press clear/back. "Replace Drum?" will appear on the screen.
3. Press "*00" it will then read accepted and the toner low error (End of Toner Life) should go away.
4. close it all up and your done.

AL-1631 TONER LEAKING


The one thing that will cause that, and has been something I have seen more than once. Make sure the machine front to back, is the machine sitting level? Take a line level and place it on the document glass front to back and see if the machine is level.
What happens is the toner and developer work to one end of the cartridge and it overwhelms that end. The other problem, is the cartridges being stored on end and not flat.
The ink then is all on one side and will not be able to stay in the cartridge when run..

Print quality bad


To clear white vertical lines from printed documents follow the steps listed below:

NOTE: The use of non-Brother or generic toner may cause white vertical lines.

Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations. Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability.
The Brotherlimited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the useof unauthorized third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.

1. First, power OFF the unit for safety. The ON/OFF switch is located on the left, rear side of the unit.

2. Open the scanner cover by pulling the blue lever located below the control panel toward you and lifting the cover. Make sure the cover is completely open.

3. Remove the drum unit by holding each side of the drum by its handles and gently lifting the drum forward (toward) you.

4. Place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of disposablepaper to avoid spilling and scattering the toner. Make sure thedirections and DR-250 stickers are facing you.

5. With the drum removed from the Brother machine, clean the laser glass. The laser glass is located inside the Brother machine where the drum was located. It is a piece of glass, about 1/2 inch wide and approximately 8 inches long, located on the bottom of the inside. Gently wipe the glass with a clean soft DRY cloth. DO NOT use isopropyl alcoholor any liquid to clean the glass.

6. Gently pull up on the mauve lever to turn the toner cartridge toward you until it stops. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit by gently sliding it out of the drum unit. ***Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wipe it off or wash it with cold water.

7. Gently rock the toner cartridge from side to side five or six times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge. Then, reset the toner into the drum (be sure it clicks into place). Gently push on the mauve lever to turn the toner cartridge away from you until it stops.

8. With the DR-250 sticker facing you turn the drum upside down. There is a blue tab located on the right side. Slide the blue tab back and forth seven times to clean the corona wire. When finished, make sure the blue tab is locked to the right side of the drum.

9. Reset drum unit in Brother machine. Close the cover securely.

Print the help list to test the unit by pressing the REPORTS key located on the control panel and then (1) on the dial pad.

If the white vertical lines still continue, the drum unit will need to
be replaced.

If the purchase date of the original drum or replacement drum is less than 90 days (within the warranty of the drum), contact Brother Customer Service Center at 1-877-Brother (1-877-276-8437) . The center is open Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 7:00 pm EST, excluding holidays.
