The simplest way, without opening the computer, would be to get a USB ethernet card, such as this:

Secondarily, you would have to consult your owners manual on what type of expansion port(s) you have internally, then purchase an ethernet card, similar to the one in the link below, and install it:

I have a dell gx240 im trying o make it boot and it just wont.i have used maxblast5 and 4 ive tried xp os and it wont install the hardrvives are used from an old computer, wht can i do to stsrtthe install

If your using the Dell recovery disk that came with the computer, chance are it wont install unless your using an identical hard drive as the original that was installed in it. You may need a new full OS disk. If you still have the original drive, may be able to ghost or clone the old drive and get it to work. There are quite a few programs for copying (ghosting, cloning) a complete hard drive image onto a new drive.

Cannot connect to internet. I had internet connection over telephone modem before Hard drive crashed. I replaced HD and could not connect to internet. Dell was no help at all. I signed up for Verizon DSL...

I bet you are using the phone modem that canme in your machine. You need to connect the Network card ( Ethernet Card) and make sure the drivers are working. Find it is System, Hardware, device manager, look for ethernet.
Connection icon and see if the netcard driver is installed.Connect the cat5 cable that was sent to you with the DSL modem box. It chould be a yellow cable... It only fits one way and in a maked plug on the DSL modem and into the network card in the computer. Everything there after should go automatically.

HP Pavilion Slimline s7621.sc i have installet vista instead of xp. my computer now says that i have no netcard. or no driver i guess. how do i manage to get a new driver when i cant get on the net? jan

That is known as a Catch-22 my friend.

You need to identify the kind of network card you have,
and then use another computer to download the driver for it.

(Or go to a local computer builder to see if he will give you a
driver on a diskette or a CD)

Pardon me of asking, but how did you post to this group
without a network card? Can you download the driver the
same way :)
