Touchpad Not Working

I recently performed a full system reinstall on my Sony VGN-A130P notebook. Everything went fine except the touchpad and buttons were non-functional and I had to use a USB mouse instead. After two weeks the touchpad and buttons just started working for no apparent reason. After another week they just stopped working again for no apparent reason and haven't worked since. Sony have had me reinstall the drivers and such but it made no difference. The Alps pointing device is listed in Device Manager but with a yellow "!" and when I go into it it says "This device cannot start (Code 10)". Anybody got any ideas? i have a new laptop just like 2months old...working fine but i left for some time without using it only to discover that the touchpad does not work again. i have tried everything but it does not work ..restored to factory setting, installed all the drivers stil no show. Now i cant use my touchpad and it is really frustrating.pls help I have the same problem only on a HP 6100 notebook.

If you has been installed the right drivers, it is hardware problem.
Try to use the factory touchpad program for your sony touchpad and see what happen (not only the driver, also the program touchpad software)

Sony Vaio VGN-NR140E touchpad is not working

You can try the drivers at: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGN-NR140E

The other thing to try is to see if you have disabled the touchpad by accident. Some touchpads have a small button near them which turns them off, to avoid accidental use, if you have plugged in an external mouse.

You could also see if the touchpad is disabled by right clicking on "Computer" and selecting "Manage" and double clicking on "Device Manager". See if anything is disabled in this list.

You should clean the button by opening the cover, realign it, and check if the button touches to the board.

Touchpad and buttons won't click on Sony Vaio

Hi,
it could be caused because of hardware failure or software failure, in case of hard ware failure it would be best to call sony tech support but in case of software issue , if you remember the day it was working fine,
do a system restore to the date it was working fine, which will reset your software configuration to the date you know it was working ok, so if it was caused by software issue it will be resolved, but any programs that you installed after the restore date will be lost

to do system restore
reboot your system when you see the sony logo start tapping the F8 key and you will come to a menu here select safe mode and boot and then
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts select the bold date your system was working fine and continue as it guides,

If you think the information i gave you was helpfull please do rate me
Regards
Ltoso
