I have Netgear Wireless Router that has just quit. I removed the connection to tha computer and connect thr modem direct. It now works. Can this be fixed?

Hi,
If the internet is working fine , after connecting the modem directly. You have already pinpointed the problem with router. There nothing much you can do, except for resting the wireless router and in 90% of the cases it starts working fine after the reset.

You can use the following link to reset the router
Reset the Router
The link also has a video tutorial for reference.
* Username = admin
* Password = password * For older devices, password = 1234

In case the problem is not resolved after the reset, its better to replace the same.

Thanks for using Fixya

Wireless Connectivety (Home)

Ok so off we go, first thing is since you reinstalled the OS, computer probably lost the driver files for the wireless device in you Dell Dimension. So you will have to find out the manufacturer of the wireless device and reinstall those drivers if you have not done so.

To verify this you need to go to the Device Manager and look for any hardware in the computer that is not installed properly (will have a symbol by it) defining there is a problem with the device, or not recognized by the computer.

Once the device manager comes back ok (everything operating normally) then you need to go to network connections. Look to see if you have a wireless connection there? If you do, then you need to connect to the wireless access point (router) So View available wireless connections. then connect to it.

There is the possibility that your friend set up the router connection with a wep kep (encryption) If so then you might just need to reset the router to factory defaults to remove this. (resetting the router to factory defaults is different depending on your router model) You will have to look this info up in the manual. Once the encryption is off it will become an open access point and you should be able to connect to it ok.

I know this was a lot of information in a short time, if you have questions please feel free to let us know.

Also if anyone else has a better (or easier) way for David to accomplish all of this please ring in.

Are you sure that your PC has a built in wireless function and not just a regular modem ??

If you just have a modem you will need to purchase a USB wireless interface the link below will take you to one perfectly compatible with your router.

I have a D-Link wireless router, it is a DI 524 model. Well I just recently had to reinstall everything on my desktop computer, which my wireless router and dsl pipe are hooked up to. I have a laptop with...

IF YOUR WIRELESS NETWORK ACCESS POINT IS CONNECTED BUT YOU CANT GET ONLINE,YOU WILL NEED TO GO TO YOUR DLINK ONLINE ROUTER SETTINGS PAGE AND CHANGE YOUR PASSPHRASE KEY WHICH YOU NEED TO CONNECT THE ACCESS POINT TO THE WIRELESS ROUTER.BEFORE YOU DO THIS THOUGH,OPEN UP THE NETWORK CONNECTIONS WIZARD ON YOUR LAPTOP AND VIEW"AVAILABLE WIRELESS NETWORKS".IF YOU SEE YOUR NETWORK LISTED,HIGHLIGHT THE NETWORK AND PUSH THE CONNECT BUTTON.WINDOWS WILL ASK YOU FOR A PASSPHRASE OR PASSWORD.ENTER THAT AND CLICK CONNECT.YOU SHOULD THEN GET CONNECTED TO THE WEB.IF YOU DONT HAVE A PASSPHRASE OR PASSWORD,THAT IS WHY YOU CANNOT CONNECT THRU THE ROUTER AND YOU WILL THEN NEED TO CREATE A NEW PASSPHRASE AT THE D-LINK WEB SETTINGS PAGE.GOOD LUCK.

Want to use wireless without running cables

Did you load the DLink software onto your computer?If so you have to configure the DLink control Panel to recognize the Internal wireless card in the computer.You may also need to take the wireless card out and restart your computer,then shut it back down and reinstall the card so the computer can recognize the card and reinstall the drivers.If it cant find suitable drivers it wont install.While you have the card out look at the brand and version number and try to download software to desktop to install in case windows cant find any.If you have a cat5 (ethernet) cable you can go hard wired till you get the wireless working.
