I have the same issue. My wife told me the Duet WFW9400SU00 would not power up. The unit is receiving power. We unplugged the unit for 30 mins. then plugged back in; now when you press power it just gives 3 short beeps. I checked the filter drain; no problem. I'm stumped....

**** Sorry Whirpool for spoiling your fun **** The issue has nothing to do with a control panel or anything else electric this is Whirpool's way of job security for their products and service tech's. I was stumped like everything else I left mine unplugged for a few weeks and then plugged it in once it worked fine. I unplugged it until the next need to use it came about. I repeated this for another 3 weeks and now it works as if it was brand new. So in conclusion this is Whirpool's way to get us consumers to feel the need to buy a new washer every 2-3years even though the existing one is fine.

I had a similar problem on my Whirpool Duet Washer model GHW9150PW0. I found the solution here (Scott says his wire was cut, but in my case one wire of the control ribbon cable was frayed because it had fallen out of its holder and onto the tub assembly, part of which is so coarse that it ate through the insulation and wire by friction during the spin cycle). A quick splice of the wire to close the circuit and some tape to keep the cable from falling out of its holder and away from the vibrating, coarse tub assembly did the trick.

Whirlpool duet steam washer error f21

The F21 code is a ' drain issue ' --- if you remove the bottom panel from the machine you will see the water pump right there,, just in front of the pump you will see a clean out area,, unscrew counter clockwise and remove the catch screen,,, it most likely has a few things in it ,, clean out - re-install and start the cycle. and the F21 code should be gone AND washer is back up and running.

Whirlpool Duet wfw9250ww will not drain F9E1 code is displayed. How do I toubleshoot this?

F9E1 or F21
  • When users observe the F9E1 or F21 error code in their Whirlpool washer's display, it indicates a drain pump system error. The drain hose should be checked to ensure that it has been installed properly and not having a blockage.

Our whirlpool duet keeps throwing F21 codes we cheked the drain its clear so we unplug the machine and try to run a load again and it throws it again!! UGH PLEASE HELP

Hi Renee from retired Englishman in SW France,

Whirlpool's 'F21' (and 16,18,20 and 22) stands for 'control unit failure', sorry ;-0(
It could be just poor contacts/plugs/sockets but certainly needs an engineer's visit- sorry again ;-0(

If this has assisted and/or clarified the situation for you please consider a 4 thumbs up on our rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Whirlpool's 'F21' (along with 16, 18, 20 and 22) stands for 'control unit failure' requiring a service engineer's attention I suggest. Sorry ;-0(

Whats f21 mean?? a new belt??

Hello, Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your post I understand you have a F21 problem with a Whirlpool Duet washer, that indicates the F21 error means an excessive drain time, the belt is a non-factor.

If you follow the link to my solution to this error you should be fixed up in no time.

Thank you for visiting fixya for your washer inquiry.

Whirlpool duet washer F21 error code. Just bought

"F21" is a Long Drain error. The following link explains how to torubleshoot:

What this usually means is that you have something clogged in the drain pump and it needs to be cleaned out. In the majority of the cases, this corrects the problem. However, if you JUST purchased this washer, and it is brand new (not used), I would recommend you use your manufacturer warranty (good for the 1st year in most cases) to avoid the risk of voiding it. The conditions of some warranties, prohibit the consumer from opening the appliance and attempting any repairs. Read the find print just to be sure.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

F21, 5d, and now not working

I had to call the Whirlpool service man. He came and concluded that the control panel was the culprit. He said it could be that the contacts were bad, but he didn't want to unstack the washer/dryer (dryer is on top of washer) to check it. He was suppose to call me to day with a price for another control. I'm just going to go and buy another machine. Can you recommend a reliable front loading washer?

Thanks for all your help!!!
