Asus monitor refuses to go to full resolution

My asus vw202 widescreen 20" monitor refuses to go any higher than a resolution of 1024 x 768. It's supposed to go up to 1680 x 1050. My graphics card is an nvidia 7300gs which should definitely go beyond 1024 x 768 - I have friends running higher than this on lower power graphics. I'm using the Asus monitor driver downloaded from their site. I have had the monitor higher, briefly - then it suddenly shrinks the display to half the screen - and refuses to go beyond 1025 x 768. Monitor works fine on old pc with on board graphics

My computer monitor shows a message "out of range". I can't get rid of the message or show anything from my computer.

The resolution your computer is sending is greater than the maximum support resolution of your monitor that isn't working or is a resolution not supported. Connect one of the monitors that works and turn down the resolution to something small (800x600 or 1024,768) and then switch to the original monitor back, you should see a picture and can adjust the resolution to something larger that the monitor supports.

The resolution option can be found by right clicking on the desktop and click properties. Then go to the settings tab. That is where you will be able to adjust the resolution settings for your monitor.

You need to adjust the screen resolution.
Go to Control Panel - Display - Settings tab - change the Screen resolution.
Start at 1024 X 768 resolution and increase the resolution till you find a setting that suits you.

I install window 7 but my benq 15" lcd monitar's screen rosuation not competible. pls guide me how i increase the rosulation thnx

As for your 15" LCD BENQ Monitor, "1024 x 768" pixels is the Maximum Resolution
If you increase your screen higher than the Maximum resolution you get a black screen! because the monitor cannot support the resolution higher than "1024x768" pixels.

How to change your screen resolution Win 7-> Link

FYI
Here are typical resolutions for some popular screen sizes
19-inch screen (standard ratio): 1280 x 1024 pixels
20-inch screen (standard ratio): 1600 x 1200 pixels
22-inch screen (widescreen): 1680 x 1050 pixels
24-inch screen (widescreen): 1900 x 1200 pixels

Hope it helps.

Images on laptop screen are a little vertically "squeezed" (round images appear a little oval).

Change to a higher resolution. If you have a widescreen monitor, your resolution should be something like 1600 X 900 or a similar widescreen format. It sounds like you have a standard format resolution on a widescreen monitor. Play around with your display settings, when you change a setting, it gives you 15 seconds to agree to the change or it will reset to its original resolution before the change, so play around until you find one you like. You can always re-arrange your desktop icons after you get the resolution the way you want.
