Question about Televison & Video

Philips 3570H will not turn off. If plug pulled and reconnected, unit simply recycles around 'starting', then a brief show of the PHILIPS banner page, and then back to 'starting'.

suggestion that the switch button was depressed was not the answer. (I presume the switch button is the on/standby button

  • dlq7 Oct 07, 2008

I fear that the last solution (tapping the case) did not work.  Is this a software/hardware problem?

If problem still exist, perform Reset (default settings) by following action...
There is a technical problem. Disconnect the recorder
from the power outlet for 30 seconds, then connect
again. If the recorder still will not operate, then reset it
to the default factory settings :
    1) Disconnect the recorder from the power outlet.
    2) Press and hold down STANDBY-ON button on the
front of the recorder while reconnecting to the power
    outlet.
    3) Release STANDBY-ON button when ‘STARTING’
    appears on the display.
    4) Wait until the recorder’s demo start scrolling on the
display, press STANDBY-ON again to turn on the
recorder. All the information stored in the memory
(programmes, time) will be cleared. The initial
installation menu will be displayed on the TV.
This is mentioned in user manual page 91

remove all the external connections connected to the dvd player for a period time of 2minutes.then without connecting the wires of the tv to the dvd just insert the power cord of the dvd to any other outlet and try to do it ON/OFF manually.if still having the same problem slightly tap on the sides of the ON/OFF button in the area of the dvd.it will work.then connect it to the tv and use it as usually.

reply if problem did not solve.

The button to open/close my Philips DVD player Model DVP5140/37 is not functioning, and the remote does not have an open/close button. How do I fix this??

Here are some troubleshooting steps to get you started to resolve the issue.

First, Try to unplug the unit for 10 seconds from the power source. Wait 10 seconds after unplugging and reconnect. Try to open/close and see if the tray opens. This may resolve the issue as this is what Philips Technical Support says to do in this situation on their website.

Also, you should be able to eject with the remote. To eject or open the disc tray with the remote, you need to hold the STOP button on the remote for 5 seconds.

Hope this helps! If not, I was told to give a direct phone call to Philips Customer Care Center from 12pm-8pm EST Monday-Saturday. Their phone number is 1-866-323-9916. Have the device/unit ready when you call with the Serial Number handy.

Warm regards,
Craig

Philips 3360H - can't eject DVD

Try this..turn it off, unplug it for a min or two, then plug it back in. THEN...if the power stays off...hit the eject/open/close button on the panel.

Sometimes this activates the eject mode without turning on the unit. IF NOT, try the remote eject without turning on the unit.

Put a cd in the dvd player if it is marked that it plays cds... if it plays the cd your dvd laser is shot... cheaper to get a new unit. if it doesn't play a cd try cleaning the laser. and last but not the last thing try unplugging it for a short time then plug it back in... if nothing works get the one tool that fixs most everything...... take it to office depot and they can recycle the stuff inside and help keep the earth green...then onto wally world.

We have a Philips VCR/DVD player DVP3340V/17. According to the manual we have it hooked up correctly but it will not record on VCR or DVD. Help

Here's what's going on with that unit. The DVP3340 records on the vcr side only, not the dvd side. To record on the VCR side, you would have to plug a red, white, and yellow plug from the red, white, and yellow OUT of your cable box to the red, white, and yellow VCR IN of the Philips. The manual, as far as I can see, only shows hookups for playback, not for recording. Good luck!

I have a Philips DVDR3570H which was working fine but no will now boot fully up..simply sits there with the "starting" message displayed on the front panel. Any ideas on how to fix?

I had this problem, looping and displaying "Starting". It was solved by reformatting the hard-drive.

NOTE: if you do this, all settings and all that is saved on the harddrive is lost. But seeing that you can't start it anyway, that is acceptable, right? :)

Anyway, here's how you do it:
  1. Pull out the power cord from the socket.
  2. Press and hold PREV and STOP (i.e. left and down) on the front panel.
  3. Plug the power cord into the socket again.
  4. Wait until the front panel says "FMT KEY" to let go of the buttons. Wait for it to finish formatting, upon which you will get "-- --" on the panel.
Restart the box and you should now end up at a screen asking you to set the language for the box, as if being started for the first time ever.

Also of note: if you want to restore the firmware to factory settings, Philips support told me to pull the cord, press and hold the STANDBY button, and plug it back in again. For the looping problem though, I didn't need that.

Will not turn on

It sounds like the VCR ate the tape. When this happened to me (with a different brand name) I took the top off of the unit and carefully removed the cassette and DVD.

USE CAUTION WHILE DOING THIS AND DUH!!! UNPLUG THE UNIT BEFORE REMOVING THE SCREWS!!!!!!

You should unhook the unit from the tv connections and take it to the table or other flat surface. While it is unplugged!!! remove the screws and remove the top of the unit. BE CAREFUL not to remove anything else!
Simply remove the cassette and DVD. Then plug in the power and make sure it comes on properly. Open the DVD tray to make sure it works also.
Then reconnect the unit to your tv and ENJOY!!
Trust me, it works... I've done it several times. I cannot promise that your problem is an eaten tape... but it sounds like it and when this happens 90% of the time, it triggers the unit to "turn off" due to a problem. Therefore, you turn it on and the unit turns itsself right back off!
I believe this will work for you :)
