Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

Hi, I have an external 500 gb HD attatched to my PC and have accidentaly re-formatted it! Well, erased the disc anyway by the look of it! Can you tell me please, can I re-format it myself> Windows seems unable to do the job!

No, it lets me into that section, but when I ask it to perform a quick format it tells me Windows can't do it! Also, if I right click on properties and look at the amount of disc in use/available, it tells me that '0' bytes are being used and that 811gb are available! Have I trashed the dics onboard operating system - or has it trashed itself? :-(

    Thanks

    George

How can i install windows 2000 in a dell optiplex 3020?

If you want a clean install just format your XP drive. Then boot with your 2000 cd in the drive. Make sure it is bootable and your bios is set to boot from cd.

Sure as long as you can find the drivers for your devices on the acer website for your pc. Most generally Windows will have the base drivers built in anyway. If it tell you it wont continue because you are writing over a newer version it may give you a continue anyway if not use the windows 7 DVD to format the hard drive then your good.

Cd drive doesnt work

The motor on the drive may be broken. To get the disc out, straighten a paper clip, and insert it firmly into the tiny hole on the front of the drive.

I would like to restore my dell optiplex 740 to its factory settings.

you can purchase a system recovery disc from dell by providing your dell service tage number to a dell support agent. the cost of the disc will be less than 20.00 billable to you credit or debit card. be sure to save all your important documents and pics as this will format your system and completelyt erase anything you currently have. after you run the disc, the old information you saved can be added back using whatever media it was you chose to save it to. (flash drive, dvd, cd, external hd)

How do I format a DVD-R disc so that I can use it again?

You can't format a DVD-R disc. A DVD-R is a write-once format: once you've burned the data onto that DVD platter, the disk is forever frozen with that information.

Please refer to the link below for more details on DVD formats:
http://www.askdavetaylor.com/whats_the_difference_between_dvdr_dvdr_dvdrw_dvdrw_and_dvdram.html

Generally, you can erase DVD-RW discs using any CD/DVD burning utility (e.g. Nero). They usually have an option to erase a disc.

Hi,

This is highly probable that the external Hard disk has failed. Not your fault , but due to manufacturing fault.

Pls return to where you have bought it, and request for warranty exchange.

"-36" error message using Acomdata External Hard Drive

Have you tried taking the files off of the drive and repartitioning and reformatting the drive?
How is the drive formatted? Fat? Fat32 or HPFS? What version of Mac OS are you running? It is possible, depending on the version of the OS and the driver for the OS that it can have problems with drives that have partitions larger than 128 GB. It is also a bios limitation with older systems.
Look to see if there is an updated driver for the OS X version you are running.
Also check in the Disk Utility to see how the drive is partitioned and formatted. If it is going to be a Mac only drive, partition and format it as HPFS. If it is a drive that you will use in Windows as well, use Fat 32 and limit the partitions to 128 GB or less.

You could also try a newer version of OS X like Tiger or Leopard. They are both more stable than older versions and have better support for devices.

Cheers and good luck.

Hard drive upgrade

Hi,
Ther could be two reasons, for the same.
1. The hardrive is not working correctly as the mesasge tells you
2. The 320 gb harddrive may not be supported by the sony motherboard.
Would suggest you to call sony support to verify if the system supports 320 gb hdd , cause i was not able to find the same information on there website.

Thanks
