The valve clearance is 0.08 for intake valve and 0.11 for exhaust valve . To do the timing you have to remove the spark plug and set the piston at top dead center (all the way up) and on the cam pulley you have a mark (like a triangle) that you have to align with the fan cover bolt hole . All these engines have a magneto ignition. The faster the mag spins the higher (better) the sparkplug voltage. So the gap is only set for the ease of starting and is not a huge part of tunning as it is on a car. Try .020 inches.
