Can play videos but cannot copy to computer

I have a Sony dcr-dvd405 and taped a high school football game but when I tried to copy it to my computer from the camera it stops uploading at 4%.

I can see all the segments (mpgs) in the lcd display and play them from there but that is it.. in the fourth segment there is a question mark. I tried to put the dvd in my computer and it won't read it so I could just copy the mpgs directly to my computer... there is a lot of video on that disc but I can't copy it..

Please help

I had the same problem when I used a DVD-RW that I formatted on my computer. I fixed the problem by formatting it correctly on my camcorder. There are two choices and you must choose the format style based on how you want to use the disk.

Insert DVD disk in camcorder. On the camcorder LCD monitor, press [P-Menu], [Set Up], [Media Set], [Format]. At this point, you have two options: [Video] or [VR]. Choose [Video] (Touch each one and read the fine above the buttons. [Video] lets you view the DVD on other players, but does not allow for editing on the camcorder. [VR] allows editing on the camcorder, but does not allow viewing on other non-VR devices.)

Fortunately I figured this out after recording one event incorrectly--a game so bad that my son didn't mind loosing it.

Make sure your DVD is finalized before playing in your computer. You can't play it outside of your camcorder until you do.

My SONY DCR-DVD405 Viewfinder has stopped working. When the LCD panel is closed, the viewfinder should show the view and the controls, but it is showing a blank grey screen. Please advise.

There is nothing user friendly on these, if your not factory trained on this type of repair then it should be done by someone who is. The view finder is a small LCD and is not meant to be repaired, but they can be replaced. Get an estimate and decide if you want to repair or live without it,

How do you delete videos from your sony handycam DCR-DVD405

This Sony camcorder uses mini-DVDs to record and there are certain restrictions when DVD is used, it is not like videotape. For a DVD-R disc, you cannot delete video once it is recorded because this type of disc is a record once only. Depending on which other disc type you use and how it was initialized, you MAY be able to delete video. For a DVD+RW disc, or a DVD-RW disc initialized in VIDEO mode, you can delete the last scene IF you have not removed the disc and not recorded any new video. For a DVD-RW disc initialized in VR mode, you can delete anytime. And here is how:
Turn on camcorder and press PLAY. Select the video or still image tab that contains the data you want to delete. Touch EDIT. Touch DELETE. Select what you want deleted. The selected scene is marked with a checkmark. Press and hold the image on the LCD screen to confirm. Touch RETURN to go back to previous screen. Touch OK - YES. You cannot recover data once deleted. There is also a DELETE ALL to delete all video or images.

Can't get tape out. Stopped recording in middle of school play and I was unable to remove tape.

Sounds like the tape misfed during the recording and wrapped itself around the fly head and recordinghead. This happens sometimes when the internal workings of the recorder get dirty. The hard part is getting the tape out without damaging the unit. Your going to have to bring the recorder to a repair shop or crack it open yourself and from the opposite side try unwind the tape.

Mode for playback of older 8mm tapes using Sony DCR-TRV730 ?

In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.

Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.

If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.
