Question about Canon DR-9080C Path-Through Scanner

Thin black line 1.5 in from the right side of the paper going down the whole page

We just started getting a think black line down the right side of the paper about 1.5 inches from the edge that goes the down the whole page. We cleaned the scanner and the border removal is currently on. When you look at the page you just scanned in on the computer it looks completely fine BUT when you print the page out then the black line appears. Can you please help to tell me what the problem may be. Thanks for your time!!

    Thanks for the help but we actually use it in a big office so there are many printers yet we are still having the problems. Everyone has a printer on there desk and in the main copy room and no matter where you print it to there is the line, its really strange.

    Have you tried to re align the printer ink cartridges?

If it doesnt have a line on it when you scan it and open up the document then it's not going to be a scanner issue, more then likely, it's going to be an issue with the toner of the printer you are using to print with. Check the drum on the toner and you'll probably see the line in question on the drum itself. You'll just have to push back the flap that covers the drum on the toner if this is a laser printer... hope this help's if it does, please mark as a FIXYA!!

My HL2040 printer is printing black vertical lines along the right-hand side of the page, about 3" or so. A month ago I took it apart and cleaned the roller. Still doing it.


If the lines go all the way down the page, check the position of the corona wire cleaner tab (blue or green) at the top front of the drum unit. if not parked fully to one side it will create a solid black lines where it blocks the laser. Otherwise look for some other foreign object (or torn paper piece) that may be blocking the laser from the drum. If the lines are thin and shark, check for scratches on the drum (not repairable without replacing drum). If the lines are uneven thickness but in a pattern that repeats down the page every few inches, then the film on the drum is probably worn or wearing away and the drum needs to be replaced.

EPSON WORKFORCE 840 AUTO FEED COPIES HAVE BLACK LINE DOWN THE SIDE


This was my exact problem. When scanning from the ADF, I had a vertical black line down every page. I cleaned the larger glass surface several times with no effect. Then, I discovered that ADF scans do NOT use the large glass area, but use the smaller, thinner glass area on the left side. It has a piece of thin plastic over the top of the glass. The scanner is fixed and the paper rolls through this area. So, if a speck of dirt is under the thin plastic piece or on top of the glass or on top of the thin plastic, it results in a black line down the whole page. Aha, so now I cleaned the thin plastic (both sides) and the top of the glass under the thin plastic - actually saw the black dot that was causing the problem and voila, problem solved.

I have a grey/black line all the way down the right hand side of the page


Run a half test.
Put paper in the manual feed tray.
Print something, anything
When the paper is 1/2 way into the printer, open the cover.
Pull out the toner cartridge. Look down at the paper.
Does it have a black line on the right side?
If yes, replace the cartridge. If no, replace the fuser.

Getting a black strip in copy mode on X6575 lexmark printer. No line in print or test mode


Most likely a page was scanned with 'white out' (Liquid Paper), still wet on the page. As the page feeds over the scanner, (a narrow strip of glass that runs across the width of the page along the feed path) the wet liquid paper comes off on the glass as a thin line and dries. Thereafter, when copying, the scanner light does not go through the liquid paper streak and the result when printed is a thin vertical line that runs the full length of the page.

If this is your problem: follow the path that the paper travels when sending a fax or making a copy, until you find the scanner (narrow glass strip). Take a clean, soft cloth and a small amount of methylated spirit (or white spirit) and remove the now dried Liquid Paper from the glass. Clean the whole strip ensuring that the glass is left clean and dry.

I get lines and can't read the right side of copies that I make with the 1270e. How do I fix this?


You have not specified why you can't read the right side of copies and I am assuming that the reason is because the 'lines' are covering the text. I can offer a solution to the lines issue.

Most likely a fax has been sent or a page copied with 'white out' (Liquid Paper), still wet on the page. As the page feeds over the scanner, (a narrow strip of glass that runs across the width of the page along the feed path) the wet liquid paper comes off on the glass as a thin line and dries. Thereafter, when copying, scanning or sending a fax, the scanner light does not go through the liquid paper streak and the result when printed is a thin vertical line that runs the full length of the page. If this is the cause you will also find that faxes you send to other people will also have this line (although faxes you receive are not affected by this problem with your machine).

To fix the problem: follow the path that the paper travels when sending a fax or making a copy, until you find the scanner (narrow glass strip). Black line is present when copying document; not


This sounds as if you have some ink/contamination on the small scaning glass that sits to either the left or right of the main glass on the copier.(Depending on the model/make)As your original is scanned over this thin piece of glass the scanning device will see any spots and this will result in a black line down the page.Please clean the glass with a soft rag.

Clean the nozzles, align the print heads, turn it off for about an hour. You may need to do this twice, but it works for me.

Black Lines running down the right side outside of the print area


It may be the fuser. Take it out and inspect the roller on it:

  1. Switch off the device, disconnect the mains plug and wait for 30 minutes before continuing.
  2. Ensure that the bypass tray is closed, or you will not be able to open the front cover.
  3. Open the front cover by pressing the release buttons as shown.
  4. Pull the front cover down towards you.
  5. Disconnect the green plug - squeeze the sides of the plug and pull.
  6. Push the left and right levers outward to unlock the unit.
  7. Pull the unit towards you as shown and lift it clear of the device.
  8. Check the roller for wear marks, If so replace it.

2" BLACK LINE


1- itis on the Scanning unit open and look for a thin strip of glass, clean
2-the scanning unit is bad

Assuming it's only on Outgoing Fxs and not incoming as well ( that would indicate the drum)

Thin black lines (mp 530)

Before doing anything more drastic, I would try this.. let us know how it turns out.. if it doesn't work, we'll go from there.
