The display mode is set to FIX display format. You can change it to some other mode like SCIentific aor ENGineering. But you will have SCI or ENG on the screen. But why bother? These symbols are designed to remind you (if you need reminding) of the calculation and display modes your calculator is set to. It is not a defect.
Hope it helps.

The screen is black on my calculator and i want to know what i can do to fix it.

This could be a contrast issue. Look for blue contrast markers on the up and down arrow keys on the top-right of the device.

    1. Press "Alpha" (top left of device below screen)
    2. Press the down arrow key on the right towards the top of the device

Repeat these steps until the screen becomes clear again (you must press "Alpha" for each contrast adjustment).

If down doesn't work, try up several times instead.

I have codes I cannot clear.

It may help to have the Brand and model of the calculator. But I suspect you pressed a Mode button, which gives you different configurations (modes of operations) for the calculator. If I guessed right you will have to enter a number between 0 and 3. If mode is not what you want, try a new number each time.

    Hope it helps.

TI 84 plus calculator, flashing dot in upper left hand corner

When you turn the calculator on, its screen is cleared, save for a small square on the top left corner. This is the cursor and it is blinking: The calculator is waiting for you to order it to perform some calculation.

    Try this simple operation
[1] [+] [1] [ENTER]. The calculator will display the result one line down justified to the right.

    Hope it helps.

Okay, I did what the best solution did and worked with it.

    "1. press 2nd F (left top corner)
    2. ENG/FIX (the button next to 2nd F)
    3. press 0 (if you don't want calculator to round off any decimals)"

In order to get your exact value of pi, in step #3, instead of 0, press the decimal [ . ]
This should give you no decimals when entering a number and give you 3.141592654... when you input pi.
    Hope that works/helps.
